So it looks like SM is the thing to do right now. I'm constantly getting all these aff links about how to get into it and basically make money by promoting other businesses' brands online. I hear companies are paying big monies to have someone manage their social media accounts.

So far I haven't actually met anyone who was really being successful into it. This whole thing seems a little overhyped and too good to be true (last article I read talks about pulling 10k a month from 10 hours of Twitting/Facebookin lol). So I thought of posting here to see if the successful SM guys out there can give us a few tips :D

jeffrey Heath Ledger won't be seen because I AM serious lol

thekaine it seems more alive than ever to me, certainly more alive than SEO.

Most people here probably aren't gonna waste time doing that because its not an effective ROI on your time.

Example: Which of the following methods of income will get you either a lot of money and/or stable income for the least amount of effort and time:

1. PPC dating and gaming on facebook
2. Niche seo blogs
3. Pitching SEO services locally to various businesses (via postcards/coldcall)
4. Pitching Social media expert services to medium to large businesses looking to spend a branding budget.

Almost everyone here knows how to make more money faster with the first 3 methods. It's not as easy as you think to convince a company with a large enough budget to blow money on managing social media accounts/campaigns. The people you hear are making money are the ones who have done a lot of cold calling/have connections/ or are just really good at selling themselves as a social media expert. And the success stories you are reading or hearing about are most likely just fluff to keep you reading whatever internet marketing blog you read them on.

You won't know until you try though so go call up some chain with 5-10 stores in your area and see if they want you to make coupons online and shit for them on a facebook and twitter page.

FH the thing is I think that most businesses are starting to realize that it's more damaging to have bad words spread about their products on the social media sphere than to have one of their pages or websites penalized by Google. Reputation Management is a big industry and it goes through Social Media. But I agree that you need to do a lot of cold calling or already have good connections in place because those businesses don't just trust anyone to play on their Twitter/Facebook. That is the problem...

This is a very good point, so why dont you start twitter/facebook campaigns criticizing certain companies and then demand ransom to change the pages into positive reviews of the company like yelp does.
