What were you doing online in '95?

this is a cool ass idea for a thread.

LOL @ 10 random sites on AOL. Remember doing that shit.

Going to "warez" rooms in AOL and trying to avoid getting caught by CATWATCH01. remember that shit?

The internet hasn't gotten that much better. There's a big storm here and my speeds have dipped to about 200kps. Until we're no longer dependent on wired connections, the internet will always be a dinosaur.

- repeatedly redialing large volumes of numbers in order to "kick" my dads connection off the modem.
- attempting to download tomb raider nude patches, and getting viruses instead (96)
- printing porn on my moms office computer

Using Aohell,ShroomZ and FateX in the AOL chat rooms. Also unloaded a few viruses to dip shits trying to trade gay pics.

First of all you were not "Googling cheats and codes for my favorite games" in 95 since da googlez weren't around. It was all about Yahoo, baby!

As for me, I was visiting the three or four porn sites I could find (wow, how the online porn industry has grown) and waiting anxiously as the images loaded line by line using my 14k modem. Ha ha, should have been buying domain names, but I was a kid without a credit card.

Oh yeah, and building a tupac page on geocities

Like many others, I keep thinking to myself: if only I started this online stuff when I first had the internet in the mid-nineties... I would be billionnaire right now :rasta:. But noooo.... instead of thinking ahead, here is what I was doing back then on the internets:

- Looking up Warez to find cracked games and appz
- Googling cheats and codes for my favorite games
- Chatting with fat hoes on IRC LOL
- Looking for XXX passwords to get into paid sites LOL
- Write about useless stuff on my GeoCities homepage LOL

What about you? What were you doing back then, instead of investing into .coms, SEO and Aff Marketing? :rasta:

Exactly this.

yup that's a few things I was doing

I was in 8th grade:

- Going in AOL MTV chat rooms and asking "A/S/L" and talking up my height/weight stats by IM
- Getting online "girlfriends" who I'd IM regularly
- Have "cybersex" with "girlfriends" from MTV or Surfing chatrooms

God, how pathetic...

Dude, the MTV chat room was the SHIT!. I was in there endlessly. I had been on AOL nearly since it first came online, but those chat rooms were so good.

Not to long after that I started figuring out how to make my own web pages.

aol chatrooms: hell, smut (porn servers where you typed the kind of porn you wanted and it was emailed to you), visual basic for making punters, scrollers, and other gayness.

Downloading and incorrectly using "hacker tools".

Thinking I was ejeet when i-framing out my angelfire site.

Learning how to do that shit from htmlgoodies.com

Wait.... all this shit was in 97-98 not 95.... my bad.

Doom brings back so many memories...

1 year later..

Doom brings back so many memories...

Round that time I played:
  • Doom
  • Doom 2
  • Hexen
  • Heretic
  • Descent
  • Commander Keen
  • Duke Nukem 1, 2 and 3D
  • Terminal Velocity
  • ROTT
  • Quake

And I played Wolfstein 3D when it came out, on a computer in the schools' computer lab when we were stationed in Germany.

If you jumped at elevator doors opening, you were probably playing too much doom that week.

waiting anxiously for the freakin interlaced GIF to load the image past the tits of Anna Nicole Smith (or Kobe Tai) LOL damn those 14.4 modems.

Pathetic .... when I think that I could have bought mortgage.com for $25, or any other 1 word domain... I was a teen like all of you but still... should have foreseen what was gonna happen in 15 years.

Probably wasn't quite 95, but close.. AOL, where I learned how to code vb apps (AOL_Frame25 ring a bell? heh), nothing significant though, punters etc..

Dabbled with spamming a bit, should have fucking stuck with it.. I ended up shortly after designing for a spammer who was bankin $10k+ a day on aol addies alone. "0din" was his handle.

I remember frequenting PR "shit", "vb" 2 3 4 5 etc.., "ixa" i think, and prolly a ton i can't remember.

Oh yeah 95 that was a good ol' year wasn't it? I was shitting in my pants so hard... I think it felt good...

Ah and by the way by 95 my family hadn't internet. Damn ol' communism in some parts of the world ain't it?
