Whats Up With This Site?

I've been messing with a wordpress blog and promoting it via Adwords, as a test. Now, I'm no stranger to building sites with a high quality score, even 10/10 QS in some of my campaigns. But this site just keeps dropping to a 1/10.

It's got link to outside authority sites, privacy policy, contact me with real details + physical address, no aff links on the site, unique content, and genuinely helpful articles across the board.

The only thing it has on the site is an opt in. The site is also about affiliate marketing. It's actually ranking highly in Google for certain targetted keywords, and even top spots in Yahoo.

This is a site I manually built - no messing about. But the POS just sits at QS 1/10.

What am I missing? Is it just the subject of affiliate marketing, which is too close to MMO that Google doesn't like?
 


it's GOTTA be the niche as a whole. their QS is easy to beat, and by ranking highly already it seems you have that covered. if you haven't though, put a little navigation in the sidebar since thats what they want (user experience)... and see if that improves it. otherwise, its has to be Google is slapping the whole niche like they do with everything. North Korea should go after Googs

That's the thing, I have navigation on this site in the LHS column of a 2 column site. There are links to the articles and categories for the articles too. It also links outwards to authority sites + they link back to this site.

I've done everything I can think of and I'm shocked that it started off on a 1/10. The account is not a poor QS Adwords account either.

And I honestly thought Google were smart enough to separate a truly educational site from a MMO site, rather then sticking everyone under the same umbrella.

If there is anything else you think I could be missing I'd love to know?
 
Did the campaign immediately receive a 1/10 QS or did it start out high and then drop? If it was slapped from the get go, could be the domain has been previously blacklisted in Adwords.
 
It actually started out low, like a 3, then went to 1 within 2 hours. I just registered the domain a few months ago.

Is there any way to check if it was registered before? Way back machine bring up nothing?

How about a whois check? Domains expire all the time and go back into the pool, so even if you just reg'ed it, could have been around for a while.

Either way, maybe switching the site over to a new domain might be worth a try - provided you don't have too much going on with organic rankings. Generally not a good idea to move slapped/low QS campaigns onto new domains to get things running on Adwords, but if you really feel that it's a high-quality site, then maybe.
 
Ok thanks. Dammit.

While we're talking about this - do you know if it's ok to dupe content on Adwords? I was told ages ago that it was ok to dupe content, as it only affects SE rankings.

But I just read info on the actual Adwords info site about how content shouldn't be duped.

Have they just updated this or something?
 
^ not too sure about duped CONTENT, but i know the googs doesnt like you just cookie-cutting the same site (with same content) over different domains.

Like the above poster said try just regging a new domain that has a good keyword or 2 in it. Slap some content there, a lil navigation, t&c and the works and you should be fine. Make sure your meta tags have relevant information about your site (obviously stuffing some of your keywords in it).
