Advice re choosing an affiliate program for a merchant?

Hi,

We are a pure play retailer based in the UK. The majority of products we sell are totally unique to us (other brands of similar products, but not the same). Our products are consumables so our customers will come back to buy them every X months. We get 100s of requests a week to launch a program.

We have always stayed clear of "affiliate programs" due to perceived risk of cannibalising our margins with our own repeat customers with our customers using cashback sites like quidco. We would obviously lose a margin on what customer would of retained anyway. We do see the massive upside however of having a good affiliate program and there must be a solution to this issue? Some ideas I have had:

1) Run our own affiliate program which "bans" cashback sites. We would also taper 2nd, 3rd and 4th purchases to incentivise affiliates to send us loyal customers.

2) Find an affiliate program that caters for our needs - is there one?

Any advice help would be greatly appreciated as you are the sort of guys we want to market our product.

Is there a particular forum they frequent more than others?
