See title, but is paying this much for a 728x90 sitewide ad on a popular forum a good deal? The forum is highly targeted, and gets more 3.5+million page views per month.

What kind of CTR do you think I could expect per every 1000 ad displays?

Thanks

** Most forums are highly targeted **

But I doubt if Anyone ever paid $20 anywhere even in the Berry and Bizop heyday

But.... If you are selling very high end products, then perhaps $20 CPM can be justified.
EG: I get $ 2000-3000 per qualified lead on a particular Forum. * couch Couch*
I don't pay $20 CPM but I would, if they ask.

EDIT: My CTR is Crazy. Not exactly CTR, but I use a Phone Number.. and it rings like crazy during a 2 month period every year.

i have a forum and im lucky to get 1% ctr. So you would be paying $20 for 10 clicks
So $2 per click; hey, it's better than adwords price for a lot of keywords..

Depends on the keyword, really though. If it's say Mesothelioma forums, then that's a very good deal :p

What does adwords recommend your bid at?

Most sites make 80-90% of there revenue from 10% of there total sold imp or so - you learn this quickly when you start trying to do direct buys. They don't want to give you even close to what they are getting for their remant traffic.

It's very unlikely you will make money on that buy unless you own the product you are advertising - even then it's still unlikely.

There are some things you could do to make this work - if you own the product you want to advertise email me at my SN at gmail and I can probably help you out quite a bit.

You can pay 5% of your $20cpm rate if you are able to buy the inventory in remnant mode via an adnetwork/exchange/buying platform with transparency but most of these platform provide site transparency as most pubs wants to protect their site from channel conflicts.
