Google places is the #1 result for some KWs, and like #5 or so for others. Is it possible to rise above google places on the keywords where it has been #1?

I am targetting a niche: housefurnitureCITYNAME.TLD However they are all taken but CITYNAMEhousefurniture.TLD is available. Would that still be classed as a EMD despite the fact it has been shuffled around? Would the big G dog still love it?
