US House passes controversial CISPA cybersecurity bill, now onto the Senate | The Verge

Republican:

206 Yes
28 No

Democrat

42 Yes
140 No

I think this pretty clearly shows that any republicans claiming they're for small government and less government control are straight up lying. If you don't know what CISPA is, do some reading. It creates a legal channel for the gov't to spy on your internet without any controls.

The prez has already vowed to veto it, but it's still scary that this shit is getting through the house.

Opinions?

I think they are just making it public knowledge what they are doing.

I highly doubt the NSA or w/e unheard agency isn't monitoring the major exchange points and with intelligence attacks cannot determine who you are and what are you doing.

But yeah, scary that they are that ballsy.

status fucking quo. Both of my reps voted for it, time to call and yell at the poor intern answering the phone.

If you're trying to turn this into a red vs. blue that's ridiculous. The only reason the majority of dems voted against it was obama threatened to veto.

Nancy Peliso voted no. Surely Fox News and Rush Limbaugh will shower her with praise her for standing up against big government.

The only reason the majority of dems voted against it was obama threatened to veto.

The backlash against SOPA skewed younger (reddit users, etc.) and these types tend to vote democrat. Based on that, the democrats in congress stand to lose more votes by supporting legislation such as this.

kinda can't wait till about 20-30 years from now so i can have a grave pissing party on all the congress members of today.

This is more representative of who drafted it and the current admin being against it

But the dems got this one right. Disgusting bill. ... oh ya and paul.

Nah republican politicians are good honest folk. Especially the fascist nazi loving neocons who have been running the party since world war II. They're all about free markets, liberty and strategery.

In fact all republican politicians are automatically more deserving of a vote than all democratic politicians just because of the party they belong to.

I thought Obama had promised to veto NDAA too?

Also, remember when he promised to veto SOPA and then went ahead and signed ACTA behind everyone's back?

Meh, It's just the legalization of what's been going on for 15+ years. LAw, no law, they'll keep doing it anyway.

He did promise to veto NDAA but then went ahead and signed it anyways, like a bitch. Yes, President Obama you are a bitch.

Meh, It's just the legalization of what's been going on for 15+ years. LAw, no law, they'll keep doing it anyway.

This provides legal grounds for them to more easily use whatever data is provided to them without coming up with some cock tainted story.

You browse porn, or you google gun makes and models, or you decide to type "I hate Obama" in a social network status, or you're researching something like I was earlier about teenage mortality rates, which could be considered morbid if you didn't know the context of the research.)

Google, Bing, Yahoo, Twitter, MySpace, every site you'e ever logged into with a password, and Facebook aggregates that data already and now they can voluntarily turn it over to DHS, local law enforcement, DIA, CIA, FBI, NSA, etc.

DHS (or whomever) now has cause (not that they need it now) to ask for your other records. They turn to Google who volunteers all your saved passwords, your email password, your entire google chat histories, every email you've ever sent, and every page you've ever googled (or even visited if you use Google Chrome.)

Now DHS (still with no warrant) can make a phone call to your ISP, who provides your internet. Now they can get packet analysis of every packet sent from your home network by ALL computers on that network.

Even if they find NOTHING, some employee somewhere just snooped through the virtual version of your dresser drawers and diary... But, they found nothng along the lines of what they were looking for. Just for giggles, they CAN bust you for letting your 13 year old download illegal songs and TV shows that you didn't know they were doing ($20,000 fine per song/episode by the way), or share your porn habits with local law enforcement, or contact your employer and ask questions about you because of something they read, saw, etc.

Additionally, whether you did anything wrong or not, they know every single thing you've ever done and can always find out the new stuff with just an email or phone call. No need for warrants. No need for you to even KNOW you've been investigated at all. No one has to tell you. No one has to get a warrant, and you have NO RIGHT to be informed you're under investigation.

That's what CISPA does, worst case. Not to mention the government can't currently share information about you TO businesses (such as Google or your employer). That information is classified. This bill repeals that. Now they CAN tell businesses information about you if they want to or feel they need to.... scary huh? Why the hell would they need that verbage added to ANY bill?

Let's couple that with NDAA and then you get a REAL mixed bag of treats. Now they can snoop on you in real-time and classify you and revoke your citizenship and detain you without due process. That's all with just the two laws they're trying to enact this year alone.
