Interesting article, although I think he also over-simplifies it concluding that there is a link between all illegal drug use and organised crime. That link just isn't there is some cases - If someone grows their own weed or picks some mushrooms for example.

Given the size of the drug economy and number of related deaths and also the taxes levied on legal drugs and the way they are spent by governments, I think a strong argument could be made that users of legal drugs are "helping to kill people" more than users of illegal drugs.
