1st attempt...just trying to break even with Amazon Affiliate. These numbers look ok?

About to get my feet wet. I wanted to try using Amazon Affiliate since I already have an account. I wanted to learn how to get my page ranked high in searches so I figured why not target an Amazon sold item(not sold in any local stores). I think it's an inexpensive way to get into SEO and I'm comparing this to me paying to learn something by actually doing it.

My steps:
1. Find item.
2. Keyword research. Make sure keyword is searched enough with low competition.
3. Buy domain from namecheap.
4. Point domain to a wordpress blog/site that I will create.
5. Link to item on amazon.
6. Profit???

The item want to try has 2-3 main keywords. Here are the numbers(using google's keyword tool..."broad"):
KW1+KW2+KW3 = 5400 global, 2900 local, cpc=.35
KW1+KW3 = 27000 global, 12000 local, cpc=.91

Amazon has the top two spots and third place has 127 backlinks. EMD are available...KW1-KW2-KW3.com and KW1-KW3.com are $10.


Questions:
1. Are these good keyword numbers? I really don't know what are "good" numbers when getting into a niche. Someone want to share their "minimums" before attempting a keyword?

2. Is 127 backlinks considered a lot? I know quality matters too, but think it's possible to overtake at least the third spot somewhat quickly?

3. Think I'll make my $10 back ?

You want [exact] numbers from the GKWT, not broad. Your broad numbers don't mean a whole lot. Try again with the exact filter. Worst case scenario you wasted $10 on an EMD targeting 3 searches. Buy a new one.

That's not a plausible question. It's impossible to say X backlinks will get you to spot Y. If you want a measuring stick, find out how many links the pages in the top 10 have and average them out.

If you hustle you can make your $20 back.

Those look fine.

You don't want it to look spammy and keyword stuffed. You don't need an EMD to rank, it just gives you a bit of an edge. Pick any one keyword and register it, or just come up with a brandable name.

The amount of monthly searches aren't always a direct measure of competition. Sign up for a free account at serpIQ.com, enter in any keyword, and spend some time looking at what metrics are being measured. These are all things you can compare on your own with an hour or so on your hands.

Unless it's a keyword that I think will convert higher than average (buy widgets), I usually look for at least 1K searches.

You want to be focusing on "buying" keywords.

127 is usually a low number, what do the 127 backlinks consist of?

The answer to a lot of your questions can be found using the search function. This forum doesn't tend to give newbie advice and contrary to your assumption, isn't very noob friendly
