I am NOT trying to start a political debate - just a discussion on the laws of economics v. the government of the people.

For instance, we (the US) have been at war nonstop since the end of WW II.

Again - stay with me - this is not a political debate if Bush is a liar or that Democrats are pussies - both parties are equally involved here.

War is immensely profitable, profits went up 25% in 2005 to a quarter of a trillion dollars. The US spends more on its defense budget than all of Chile's annual GDP.

General Motors' annual revenue is bigger than Denmark's GDP.
Exxon Mobil makes more money than Poland.
Mitsubishi makes more than Greece.

The point I'm trying to make is where the fuck are we heading?
Large corporations spend millions on lobbying and even more on campaign sponsorship.
Will we ever reach a point where corporations are in full control of the government?

This might seem a bit biased to some of you but it's short and well done:
YouTube - WHAT BARRY SAYS

By the way, just to clear something up - I would never waste time being a political activist or anything vaguely related to it, but if we can figure out where we are heading then it'll be easier to benefit from it.

Have you ever seen the movies "Thank You For Not Smoking" Or "Lord Of War".

Now thats where the money is (As you clearly stated out in your post).

I'd much rather have power in the hands of corporations than most governments. Corporations are driven by their shareholders to provide innovation and a superior product than their competitors. Global corporations do far better than governments can to provide jobs, education, and a better way of life.

Also, I don't share your fear that corporations control the political system. Our fundamental liberties and systematic checks and balances ensure that things run relatively "for the people". Unfortunately, the people today seem not to mind our eroding liberties and lack of respect for our fellow humans and communities where we reside.

Damn, little Libertarian speech from Dave. Time to go to bed. :D

I still stand by my statement that I said in 5th grade and got suspended for being serious about it too!

"When I grow up I want to be a dictator of my own country!"

My two favorite movies.

But I've thought about this a lot before, and I always come to the conclusion that the path we are heading down is immensely clear. National borders are going to disappear and in their place will be corporations running sectors of people. It's that simple.

Corporations are run to make lots of money for a small group of people... unfortunately some governments are run like that too... (no need to mention which ones really).

what do you mean, corporations are in full control of the goverment since they own the so called award winning media establishments , nbc timewarner what have you. own the media you control peoples opinions cause most people look to the media for clarification of what to beleive and what not to beleive.in other words boy i wish i had some google, exxon or bp stock.
