Adiakritos Journal

hit me up if you ever need any help with photoshop, I have logged more hours than I can remember in that damn program.

On a sidenote, I'm impressed how you only post in this thread here lol

yo dude I was recommended kuler by someone in my journal thread, it's helped me out quite a bit. feel free to hit me up about photoshop as well, have definitely put in the time ;)

dchuk: lol yeah thats because I saved this thread on my browser as a tabbed bookmark.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help!

btw what is kruler? I just looked at the site and it seems its like a place where you can preview other people's color schemes. Nice source of inspiration.

My adobe book arrived! Time to get psycho again and spend the next 2000 hours of my life memorizing the techniques because I'm an addicted maniac!

ok first question on Photoshop CS4.
How do I reset the settings file?
I googled this and didn't come up with an answer for vista.

ok nvm I got it. I had to use my search feature on vista to find the roaming file,, and then delete the file.

pretty good for a first stab. add some slight drop shadows to the text, very light and tight to the letters. For the menu, add a small gradient overlay to give it some depth.

a good thing to do while doing straight design stuff is to browse through sites like themeforest.net and css galleries to grab inspiration and techniques from existing designs. Most of my sites end up being a bastard child of ten other sites online.

thats pretty much what this is. A lot of the stuff I got for this site came from sites I got on template monster.
I'll add those tweaks in.. thanks!

lookin good. Try and tweak the default settings for the layer styles to get things looking a little less bubbly, but overall, it's pretty good for a first project.

What do you think your subpages are going to look like?

I sent this to the client and he didn't like it.. arggh!!

I want to figure out how to host sites from my computer so I don't have to pay $10 every month just to test a project.

My sub pages will look similar, but the background image will look different.

what didn't he like? One thing you should start doing is creating two different mockups to deliver, and tell your client to choose the direction he likes the most. That way you'll incite a more positive reaction out of him.

Post his feedback, then we'll see if we can help you clean things up and meet his needs.

I talked to him on the phone. He pretty much said "I'm looking for something real simple and more like a cigar site... like a cigar site.. more like a cigar site.... " lol and he sort of just repeated that over and over... lmao.

working with clients on design projects is like trying to eat a steak with a spoon, it looks like it might work out alright in the beginning, but it ends up taking forever and you don't even give a shit anymore once you're done.

If he wants cigar sites, give him a cigar site. Search for cigars and grab the 5 best looking sites out of the top 100 results, then incorporate elements of each one into your design.

My guess is he probably wants some wood grain, red velvet, cigar boxes, and cursive fonts. Just intuition though :)

lol sweet. I'll keep that in mind.

I was more in the frame of mind for creating a nice design in general vs. creating a specific one that he would like. A hur durr fault for me but I learned lot non the less.

He said he'd send me the links he found to some sites he liked but I didn't get an email today.

I might make something rough along those lines you described, and pretty much something I think would make sense for a cigarish site.

Maybe make two like you said and allow him the assumption of "its either or".
