I buy display from a few individual sites who have the ability to have me give them tags to run for the campaign but otherwise dont' offer any rotation/split testing ability with multiple banners.

I'm looking for a basic solution to fix this - whereby I can give them a tag and either through a hosted/downloaded solution simply split test a number of different banners and then weed out poor performers while the campaign is still running.

I've been rigging the process by simply having them setup multiple campaigns but this obviously isn't ideal especially as the losers then have to run their course before I can re purpose that budget into the winners.

Anyone have a recommendation of a good simple way to control this on my side? It looks like OpenX.org might be a good solution.

OpenX is actually a great solution. I was NOT a fan of it, at first, but after forcing myself to use it - and after researching the other adservers out there - I came to the conclusion the OpenX rules.

It's totally free. It does the same stuff that some very high-$$$ software does. And it is very powerful.

If they will let you use a .php file in place of an .jpg file you can have some code that chooses one banner from a list and keeps track of some stats.

Not sure if they will let you do that but it is worth asking.

open X may be really good but also do keep in mind that it eats up a lot of ressources. anything under a dedicated server won't be really suitable if you do a lot of content.

Really? My first impression with OpenX was that the interface was annoying as fuck. Maybe I'll give it another go.

We're running OpenX on WickeFire. We might migrate to a custom solution, but overall it's a pretty solid platform.

Openx is plenty if all you want to do is rotate banners & get CTR stats for a zone.

It can take a whole lot of customization at extremely high loads, but it doesn't sound like that's what you have going on.

I have not heard good things about the hosted services uptime, although I have no direct experience with it.

It's an easy install and the out of the box features will more than cover the needs you listed.
