In all my years from when I was in adult from the early/mid 90's to 2002/03 when I quit I never once made a TGP or MGP, ever. Still to this day, it just seems like a shitload of work for very small returns.

Can you tell us a little bit more about the (affiliate) programs you were using those days? Do you still recommend those programs to use when someone wants to start an adult site(s)? Also I would like to know which adult forums are good ones in order to learn about the subject?

Thanks! :)

I tried to do the adult affiliates by putting up galleries on listing sites (TGP & MGP). My suggestion is stick with the G-rated affiliates. Adult affiliates seem incredibly hard to get signups with. I had click after click and nothing. It seems that users are simply just trying to look at free porn vs users trying to get information and finding a useful affiliate in the process to signup with like the stuff people do on here.

Jon, if you don't mind me asking, what would you do then? linkdump sites?
I never touched that stuff either. I always focused on SEO, PPC and cloaking. Also, I ended up getting out of promoting other sites, and launched my own with some partners. By the time I quit in 2002/03 we had a roster of 90 sites. Probably could have had way more, but we got lazy. It's VERY easy to make a large porn site network, and making your own affiliate program for it is easy enough as well.

I would tell anyone who is first starting out in adult to have that as their goal within a 2 year period or less. First learn and try everything you can as far as promoting, selling, marketing goes. Learn the ins and outs about content, where to buy it, how to make it yourself. Make sure you keep up with all of the retarded US laws and credit card rules that change and constantly effect the industry.

After you feel that you know what you're doing, then without giving up your operation, hire someone to manage it and give them 25%-40% of the profits. While they run that for you, focus on starting up your network. It's all in your hands, and it's not very hard or super expensive to do either. Just requires a lot of thinking outside the box and being very creative with your marketing and website appearences.

The forums I visited were both adult and non-adult. Nothing specific really. Maybe netpond, xbiz, gfy (when it was good), and ynot.

Back then it was strictly for information, learning as much as possible and figuring out how to keep my edge over my competition. I was one of the first and few to apply SEO and cloaking networks to my sites to increase traffic. I'd say 98% of the webmasters were all into those damn TGP's.

For affiliate programs, it was a whole different industry back then. I didn't stick with just one, I would constantly jump around and make new sites that promoted those free trials, where I'd make $25-$35 on. I tried promoting those $0.50 per email offers and the join4free things, but the free trials or paid trials always did better.

After a while I just wanted control over my own small network, so I put the affiliate shit on auto-pilot, didn't really update anything and just let it earn whatever it was going to earn. I did my research and then launched my own network of sites. After that, I never really had to do much work. Just keep the affiliates paid and happy, keep the members area packed with fast loading movies and pictures, and collect the checks.

try netpond.com and greenguyandjim.com for help
