Here's what I don't get, with AWR you can track unlimited keyword/urls and it costs just a $99 lifetime license yet MSM has a tiered monthly payment plan going up to $600/month and with a keyword limit too. Don't these both do the same thing? Not bashing I'm just trying to figure out what I'm missing here.

You're going to need the Enterprise version of AWR if you have more than a few keywords. This is because it supports multiple proxy servers. The less expensive versions don't, so you'll be getting blocked constantly if you are checking many keywords. Enterprise is $399 plus $119 per year for the maintenance plan (upgrades, search engine updates, etc.). You also need proxies. I am paying about $22 per month through proxybonanza.com.

I'm using AWR, but I'd probably go with an online service if I had it to do over again. I started with SEscout, but switched to AWR after getting tired of the problems with it. The main reason I stick with AWR is that it is cheaper for me at this point than one of the services like MicroSiteMasters. I'd need at least the $50 per month account and that is more than I pay for proxies plus a yearly maintenance plan for AWR.

I suggest trying both since they have a free trial/account. AWR offers a 30 day trial and MicroSiteMasters has a free account.

AWR you run on your system, and supply the proxies, etc.

MSM we run for you, handle the proxies, and keep up with page layout changes. And notes feature, scoreboard, etc. Give the free account a shot.

Tried to keep it as simple as possible. :)

These desktop tools are great if you have a few sites and track less than 50 keywords. Micrositemasters is nice because it's hands off and you don't have to worry about proxies or get annoying captcha messages after you just ran your ranking report for 4 sites.

The only thing I would like to see is a "notes history" section where you can view all your added notes, note dates and the keyword and site the note was made on. This way I won't keep forgetting about notes I added :)

I think you're forgetting to factor in the maintenance plans to keep your software updated with SERP updates:
Advanced Web Ranking - Maintenance Plans

Each have pros and cons depending on your goals. As someone who has run rank tracking software for years and has recently switched over to MSM, I can tell you that I'm much happier with MSM than I was with the software solutions (I used WebCEO).

I have two main reasons for why I love the switch. First is I don't have to worry about keeping remote computers running at all times, connected to the internet, and applying software updates. Second is MSM runs every single day, and offers a daily winners/losers list via email that I can use to stay right on top of any significant ups/downs.

It does the work for me so I can focus on the data.

AdvancedWebRanking does not actually give a $99 for "lifetime" plan, it will work fine for one year and afterwards you have to pay US $29 yearly for "maintenance" in order to get accurate results. They just trick you with the word "life time licence" but the licence will be pretty much useless after one year if you don't buy the yearly "maintenance"

MSM > Rank Tracker > Others

AWR told me a keyword went up to 3rd today, its really on the 3rd page.
Other than that, which happens rarely, I love it. You can get it free too if you do a review for them.

MicroSiteMasters is easy as fuck to use and looks pretty. That's all that matters mother fuckers.

Here's my thorough review;
