I tried newspaper advertising once, pushing several products in at least 12 different papers in different markets. No conversions. My guess is people don't want to make the effort to go to a computer. Or maybe my ads stank. Whatever.
Lots of people in poor, rural places have no computer. Ever considered that? Market Health is one company that offers conversion tracking via mail in and over the telephone, and it may be worthwhile signing up with them and trying out various offers in the papers using their phone tracking.
Does anybody know of other networks that have alternate tracking methods?

What if you listed a phone # in the classified ad, prepared a compelling sales type speech for a few offers, and then just enter the people's info into your landing page from the phone when you convince them? You would hopefully be able to convert all calls since you are actually talking to the person. (You need to know how to speak for that to work though.

No offer would let you do this without first talking with them and seeing if its cool and even then I doubt you would find many offers that would allow you to do that.
1. Write a sales letter (a good one). Copy and offer need to kick ass.
2. Record it.
3. Place classifieds or Mail Postcards promoting 800 number recorded message
4. Send people from classified or postcard to 800 number with your recording
5. Send them from the call to your lander or the offer

Forget the fact that most networks won't allow you that. You're gonna jump on the phone and go into a pitch each time one of these jerk offs calls your number? Can't wait until you start posting threads asking how you scale that shit.
More than likely it's because people that read the newspaper are old as fuck and don't buy anything that wasn't endorsed by Paul Harvey or Andy Rooney (by the way Paul Harvey was the shit but that's outside the scope of this thread.)
Seriously, the people that advertise in the paper today are the same type of people what would have tried to attach a banner to the back of the Hindenburg.
I profit enough in newspaper ads to pay two of my employees salaries each month....just sayin'.
