I saw in several websites that they used their background image as an affiliate ad, especially for online games.
Can someone tell me how can I do that? Is there a specific name for that type of ad and which affiliate company provides that ad?

google 'full page takeover' - if you're an affiliate doing publishing there's not much point really since the prices are rather astronomical for this - if you own the site and are looking for advertisers you will need a lot of traffic for this to be worthwhile.
 
Basically you can use the images from your network and code it as your page's background and make it clickable. And when people click on it, redirect them to the offer page.
