Interesting development (to me, at least). Heathrow and Manchester have launched their body scanners...

Full body scanners introduced at Heathrow and Manchester airports as Lord Adonis seeks to allay privacy fears | Mail Online

That's not the interesting part, of course. The first part that got my attention is the repeal of the "don't scan the youngsters" rule. Wonder where that decision will go when future generations of the BSIs are launched.

The second part was that those who refuse to comply are being banned from flights. There's no... "dude, just pat me down really, really good and jam the wand in the corners" option. No full scan, no plane ride (if you're chosen).

For those of you who are against this sort of thing, would you comply to catch your flight? If your 13-year-old daughter is chosen, would that make you less open to the idea?

Keep in mind the folks choosing people for scanning aren't crack CIA agents with decades of experience in behavioral tendencies. This guy may actually be such an agent, but I'm guessing no...

So... would you comply?

I'd walk through naked and tell them to lick my taint

This.

But this has some ups and down. the hey we need to scan your 13 year old daughter.. i could see shit like this on the news in a few years, "Airport body scanner caught with 1,000's of images of underage children" but this might beef up airport security to a point of where it might be. Eh who the fuck knows.

airport security in Gatwick was hilarious this january. They had another security set up before boarding the plane. Fucking long lines and delays bc 51% of people had to get their hand lugagge manually checked. This doesn't make any sense.

About those scanners.. well i personally dont give a shit if they need me to do that before boarding. BUT I'd not board the plane if they'd want to check my little sister in that crap and rather make a huge case about it in the press.

People need to man up and realize that we cannot live in a 100% secure society without giving up our privacy. I rather have a 0.01% risk of being blown up on a plane, train, wherever than just having my whole life protocolized (fucking UK). I'm sick of seeing constitutions being crippled because some dude tried to blow up some plane. In the 70's we would've rioted if some crappy politician would've wanted to do 5% of what they have implemented now.

We're giving up way too many rights so that politicians can say that they at least did something against it when the next plane blows up. Lets just be honest here: If someone wants to blow up a plane and if he's a smart dude, he'll ALWAYS find a way to do it.

In next years news: Terrorists have now resorted to shooting heat-guided missiles at commercial airplanes. In order to combat this, the TSA is requiring all airplanes to be escorted by two military jets. This is expected to increase ticket costs by about 200%.

Wait about 10 years and it will be revealed that the real purpose of the scanners was not to search for explosives or weapons, but to selectively sterilize part of the population.

Well in a news article, they are saying that the 'flaw' in the scanner is that it cannot see inside a man or woman and that recently there is intelligence that terrorists are looking to insert bombs inside their bodies!

problem creation -> reaction -> solution!

Dang. I was just about to suggest that if I were running a training cell in the Pashtun, I'd be telling my recruits to bend over. For the equipment. For the bomb stuff.

lol see, thats another thing im talking about. if they want to bring your plane down, they will.

Why are these scanners a problem for anyone in general and why is it a special problem for kids? The image is not erotic or pornographic in my opinion.. (?)

Also how are people supposed to bring marijuana along now?

Fedex overnight to destination hotel.

I'm a former DHS employee and I just want to say that if a person is chosen for additional screening from one of these machines it's with due cause. These machines are already serving their purpose by scaring the flying public and raising paranoia. Chances are if you think you're going to be scanned ahead of time, you wont be walking with anything artfully concealed.

1. My balls are going to get sterilized from those machines :(

2. The old trick of sticking a bag of weed up your asshole in the airport doesn't work anymore

3. Fuck planes, I'll take a cruise ship.

Good choice. Trains for anything in North America and ships for anything overseas. Hell, you can ride the Queen Mary 2 on a transatlantic trip in just 7 days, for less than $1k, with a nice room and Internet access. I've seen the trip as low as $350 during off-peak times.

This doesn't bother me I hate flying, fuck if I'm getting on a plane.

Don't xrays make you serial? I thought that was why when you get xrayed in hospitals they get you to cover your balls.

They just had an expert on a TV show here in Germany.

He was able to smuggle all parts needed to bring a plane down without the scanner even showing it.

Thing is, these scanners detect differences in heat given off from your body. That is why items will show up (normally their edges), because they have a different heat diffusion from the rest of your skin.

Doesn't work with anything you got in a cavity (so yeah, you can still bend over for that marihuana smuggling), and it didn't even work with items in a loose fitting pocket.

I guess plastic explosive rolled out very fine and sewn into loose fitting clothes won't show up either.

You are trading your privacy for lies and bullshit, not security.
