When I first began, I thought everybody was a webmaster making a living from running websites. And then I learned about PPC.... :rasta:

Now I realize that some people are doing PPC while running websites, and some people are doing both or either.

So far, I am learning and testing PPC, and I have a live blog. Planned are 2 social bookmarking sites and a bargain site. Diversity works best, right? I don't know yet how many sites I can handle.

What kinds of sites do you have, and which kind of AM has been the most profitable?

Hey BlueYonder, I'm saying go the "multiple streams of income" way - it sounds good but it's true.

I'm messing with content sites and a few other widgets, don't think I have the budget for PPC anymore.

I have to agree that diversity seems to be the key. My results seem to vary depending on what I am promoting or if it's particularly hot at the moment. When that happens then I will concentrate on that campaign until it seems to cool down. For some programs, I do much better with article marketing directing to a review blog; for others, I do better with ezine ads.

I have one SEO/PPC promoted site, but the PPC brings me in more money than the SEO right now because it's pretty new.

Then just other PPC stuff.

Once you have a decent SEO'd e-commerce store (like BANS or phpBay), it pretty much just sits on auto-pilot. That will help pay the PPC bills to test out some campaigns until you find a winner, then you squeeze everything you can out of that campaign while you quickly repeat the process. Also, test out other traffic when you can afford it, like contextual or media buys.

You don't want to be relying on a single campaign or traffic source when that suddenly dries up, because that scramble to replace it is not a fun process. Nothing lasts forever in this business. Plan for it.
