I am new to affiliate marketing, but someone I trust has suggested the following method to drive traffic and get affiliate sales. I know this is pretty basic, but I have to start somewhere. Here is his suggested beginner strategy:
1. go to click bank and find products that interest me and have a good gravity and average sale.

2.search google keywords tool to find phases relevant to the product that have a decent amount of organic searched traffic.

3. Then see if those phases as domains are available .com, .net or using dashes - in between the words of the phrase and buy the best domains available

4. Then buy ppc ads for search phrases that match or are close to my domains - and forward domain to the products sales page.

5. If it ppc works, then develop somewhat cloneable SEO websites that introduce advantages of the product. Try to rank very high organically for those exact match phrases in which you have similar domain names for. Then get customer to click a "for more information" tab to go the product sales page.

I know this is basic stuff for all you guys, and it seems doable for me, but I feel like I am missing something or maybe a lot. Advice would be appreciated.

Most who are successful at PPC have lost a fortune by testing, so unless you have a lot of money to blow I wouldn't really recommend you start with PPC.

PPV or PPC he is (more likely than not) going lose money anyway.

Limit your budget to something you're comfortable with, try to play with money you don't already need. And track track track where your traffic and sales come from, which keywords convert etc... from the begining of your campaign so you can build history and see what works and what doesn't

Whats your budget like? You may end up losing a lot of money if you don't know what your doing. Step 4 is way too general. He did not provide any information on how to optimize the ads, what to do and what to target.

why not? It's the best place for anyone to start out and learn the ropes. Start on adcenter. Cheap clicks good quality but low volume so you won't blow your budget in a day. Playing with PPC when your new is the best learning tool out there. Just find some good long tail keywords and throw up an ad and start testing and find out what works. Don't mess with google until you got a converting landing page and you understand the rules. Otherwise they will ban you and toss you aside without warning.

I agree that PPC can have a steep and sometimes costly learning curve, but its still the best way to learn about putting together an effective campaign.

PPC can be great, if you know what you are doing with it. If not, you may as well throw your money in the bin - its an easy way to lose a lot of money quickly!

If you want to learn PPC.... Direct linking on Facebook is the best self serve platform for entry. You will learn the basics of creating a successful ad. good ctr = cheaper clicks. shoot for .08 at a minimum.

split test all combo's of headline, body and most importantly image. Use the 3 subid fields in networks UI to optimize. Once you master FB... try another source.

good luck!
