UK PM Cameron unveils new anti-ISIS measures - CNN.com

So what do we have here?

British Prime Minister David Cameron called Monday for a new law to give police the temporary power to seize a passport in case a British citizen is suspected of trying to travel to support ISIS.
"We are clear in principle that what we need is a targeted, discretionary power to allow us to exclude British nationals from the UK."
"Airlines will have to comply with our no-fly list arrangements, give us information on passenger lists and comply with our security screening requirements. If they do not do this, their flights will not be able to land in Britain," he said.
The Prime Minister said Britain's intelligence agencies and police believed that stronger powers were also needed to manage the risk posed by suspected extremists already in the UK.

Cameron said he would introduce legislation giving British authorities new powers that would strengthen their ability to track suspected supporters of ISIS, by providing "enhanced use of exclusion zones" or "relocation powers."

The powers would be in addition to existing terrorism prevention and investigation measures, or TPIMs, which allow restrictions on terror suspects, including overnight residence at a specified address, GPS tagging, reporting requirements, and restrictions on travel, movement, association, communication, finances, work and study.
Well, this sounds fun. When are the US, Canada, and Australia versions coming?

Australia's already doing it. Not letting known jihadists travel to countries like Syria, but of course they can go somewhere like Turkey easy enough and make the rest of the trip by road, or whatever. I don't understand why you would want to keep people like that in the country though. Let them travel and then don't let them come back. Just what we fucking need is a bunch of battle hardened terrorists returning "home" to spread their shit around.

Fuck that. They want to go, they can hand in their passport on the way out never to return. Good luck bros, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

We should stick them all on a plane and let them go to Syria - just open the door at 30,000 ft, we'll see if Allah really loves them.

I'll run this up the ladder.

I know some guys with some high up connections in some places that might be able to do some things as well. We're all supposed to play Scrabble tonight. Will setup an AMA as well.

Well this doesn't really cover private aircraft at all. I fly Uk > France & back on occasions on private flights. Passport control is basic at most where we land.

Fair enough - France/UK is not likely going to pose any imminent threat but it just sounds like trying to 'plug big holes' where many smaller ones exist anyway. Anyone serious with an ounce of brain matter (and healthy financial support) would use those routes anyway surely?

All this will produce is more hassle, longer travel time & a total pain to legit people travelling on airlines? It's a nonsense if you ask me.

Yeah, true enough. Years ago had a friend who used to work as a foreman baggage handler on the runway of a large airport, and he just laughed at all this extra security they added. Said it was just a complete joke, and putting a bomb on a plane is no problem at all.

Security is screwing around looking at our nail clippers and lecturing us about bringing liquids aboard, all the while tons of people are wandering around the back of the airport and runway, with no real security at all.
