If I use an anonymous private proxy on its own, my understanding is that there are potential security issues, like the proxy owners able to see passwords etc.

If I connect to the anon. private proxy using my VPN (128 bit encryptation) is it secure, or can passwords still be seen?

Thanks

I don't know what you're asking exactly but if you buy private proxies/VPN and then use them to browse the internet then no your passwords will not be recorded

If you're entering a password through an encrypted connection (e.g. https, ftps, etc.) the proxy owner won't even see where you're connecting to.

Passwords sent over plain connections however will be plaintext and will therefore be visible to the proxy service provider.

Thanks for your answers guys. I'll try to be a bit clearer about my question.

handrewrites, yes that's my understanding too about an https connection.

What I'm not sure about is a situation where I'm connecting to a plain http site.

Say I wanted to use an anonymous private proxy to sign into wickedfire. No https is available from wickedfire, so the proxy owner could see my login details.

What I don't know for sure is if I connect to the internet using a VPN like Witopia with 128 bit encryptation, and then go through the private proxy, are my login details encrypted so the proxy owner can't read them?

Hope that's clearer.

^That only means the data is encrypted between you and the proxy, so for example if you were using an open wifi connection and someone tried to sniff it they wouldn't get anything. The proxy service on the other hand would be able to see everything.

It's "encryption" not "encryptation" btw.

From my understanding of proxies, the people who own them can not get your passwords and such as long as they are encrypted. Otherwise, they will be in plaintext, which is very easy to get a hold of.
