Another Estimation of Revenue Thread

Scratch that, I just re-ran my numbers. It's definitely $692.31 per day, every day.

OP, I apologize for my earlier comments. I was being dismissive as a defense mechanism, and hoping to disguise the fact that my revenue projection skills are not up to snuff. Cheshire knows his stuff, and I would trust his assessment 100%.

I have been reading through these forums for months now

Then it's time to stop reading and start doing.

Why do you require people that don't know you to tell you such a sensitive information like their earnings?

People are generally private about how much they make and this is how it should be.

it's not related to this thread, but a lot of people can find this insightful.

Here is a real life example:

1) You make the big buck.

2) You post on an internet forum, that you make big buck.

3) Sneaky hacker sees that you make a big buck.

4) Sneaky hacker sends you an email asking for something, and you send him an email back. Then sneaky hacker extracts your IP address from the email(really easy to do)

5) Sneaky hacker scans your ports and sees what OS and software you are using.

6) Sneaky hacker buys or writes himself 0 day exploit for something that you are using.

7) Sneaky hacker bashes your IP with the exploit and voala! he opens root session on your machine.

8) Sneaky hacker rootkits your machine for future use.

Hey honey, my $50,000 ACH just came through, I'm seeing it right into my E-banking... or not.

That is just one way to get an edge over people, you know are rich. Creative villans have lots of ways.

Do not disclose your income publicly for some fucktards to see them, you gain nothing. Actually, do not disclose it to friends either. Different issues, with the same core reason.

Other than that, as I see it there are this ways to make money in IM:

- HAVE YOUR OWN PRODUCT - this is where the big money is.

- to make money through affiliate marketing, you gotta buy traffic, not own websites. Single, or 2-3 websites with even moderate traffic will earn you a few hundred bucks tops. And that is even if you have sites in the right niches, and have the right products to promote. Overall, if you wanna be in performance marketing, you gotta buy traffic, not have your own.

- Make MFA sites. Just create lots of sites with 10-15 articles and bash them with adsense blocks, amazon/ebay feeds where appropriate, CJ, chikita, and whatnot. Here to make money you gotta figure out the best way to monetize that particular site. If you are creative, you're gonna be fine.

- Create authority sites. Focus on fewer sites, but create lots of content so you have big number of uniques and returning visiotors. You can get into some banner ad networks and sell impressions. Again, you gotta figure out the best way to monetize. You can blast your visitors with some offers every now and then, but be very picky about the offers. Figure out why, yourself. You can flip some and then create new. Or you buy some, pump them and sell for profit.

- One big ass authority site and figure a way to sell direct advertising to huge corporations and private advertisers.

- E-mail marketing. I keep hearing people are killing it, but generally this a really hush-hush niche.

- Be creative and figure out a way of your own.

- Make WSO.

This isn't completely necessary to "make the big bucks" and you need to slang other peoples products before you run off creating your own. If you don't understand how to effectively market a product it doesn't matter how good it is.

Wrong again. If you do it right you can earn $$,$$$ a month off of 1 site, with moderate traffic. Paid or free, it doesn't matter. Learn how to monetize your traffic, and learn how to get traffic that converts. Tossing up a wordpress blog with some $2 articles is going to produce shit results. LEARN HOW TO MARKET AND ADVERTISE!

Worst advice I have heard on this forum.

Good advice. But why would you sell an authority site. Maybe my definition of "authority" is different than yours. An authority site to me is one that earns $$$,$$$ a month or more. Why in the fuck would you sell that unless it was for millions. Maybe your "authority" sites earn you $,$$$ a month.

- One big ass authority site and figure a way to sell direct advertising to huge corporations and private advertisers.
Good idea, bad monetization method. If advertisers are willing to buy advertising space then why dont you promote affiliate programs in the same spots and keep the $$$ for yourself?

- E-mail marketing. I keep hearing people are killing it, but generally this a really hush-hush niche.
This is the secret band of affiliate marketing. These guys are typically very good at what they do. It's going to take some time, and lots of lost dollars before you get anywhere. You'll probably get fucked over a few times also.

- Be creative and figure out a way of your own.
This.

- Make WSO.
Please, god. No. WSO's are already a disease, no need to add to that sickness.

I won't argue with that, but plenty of people made their product without ever selling anything else. My definition of product is very broad, and not stricktly IM related.

The thing about this, as I see it, it's not as scaleble as I want and huge work.

Plenty of people are making lots of money like that. It's not something lasting, but IMO it's the best way to start out if you want to sell advertisement.

Because you figured how to do it. You can easily repeat. I'm not saying anyone HAVE TO do it. But if you are not as passionate about a site anymore and it's earning well, why don't you sell it for 16-20x and have a quick cash infusion?

Good idea, bad monetization method. If advertisers are willing to buy advertising space then why dont you promote affiliate programs in the same spots and keep the $$$ for yourself?

The problem is you got more traffic than you can monetize. i.e. you can get big money if coca cola wants to advertise on your site, but I can't really think of a way to get more money than they would give me if I keep the inventory for myself. Of course you could always figure out a way. It's just I don't think that what you will squeeze more will be worth the effort. With that kind of sites you have lots of other things to take care of. Of course you can blast offers every now and then. I mean, I thought it goes without saying, just selling inventory is the hassle free way, which will leave you bothering about things that matter more. Moreover, if you promote offers you gotta worry about the quality, because you gotta have into consideration your brand authority and trust. Do you see techchrunch doing CPA? No, because they have to stay unbiased and things like that. Yet I am sure they make millions a year. And I even don't think they have direct advertising, it's a network, I think. But that is because AOL probably needs boost in their network to attract advertisers.

Please, god. No. WSO's are already a disease, no need to add to that sickness.

haha, irony, ldo

I agree with most of Cheshire's comments. I know plenty of people making monthly 5 figures from their websites, without selling their own products or anything else. The key thing that all those people share? Persistence.

Their websites didn't make monthly 5 figures overnight for the first year, or the second year. Often it took 3-5 years to get to that level, constantly producing high quality content, working on link building, writing guest posts, etc etc..

They certainly didn't buy 20 shitty $2/hour odesk articles, plaster a website with them, do a few xrumer/whatever blasts on repeat hundreds of times and start rolling in the money, either - that's a sure route to failure these days.
