So word came that I am getting laid off, dec. 5th is my last day. I am a recruiter in the financial industry, and when there is no hiring going on, there are no need to have recruiters. I am not stressing, I can go back to content writting til things pick up. I am also averaging 50-75 a day doing CPA stuff, some black hat etc. I have a good hosting account, and now am going to make use of it. It has a cPanel admin set up, is there anywhere that has a step by step guide on installing/editing templates and other sites? I am wanting to save the $10 I pay to upload it, and learn to do it myself. Thanks for any help and advice!

You mean editing a template in another program such as Dreamweaver (which I don't recommend) and uploading it through FTP? I'm a little lost to what you are asking.

Edit: If I understand what you are asking correctly. You are paying $10 to upload a file / site?

Sorry to hear about that. WP template? If it is, PM me, I'll tell you how for free.

Keep your head up, this is an opportunity!

Yes it is more or less as noob as it sounds, I can usually get it done, just was looking for a easy step by step guide. I am familiar with wordpress, I was more looking for how to get a custom lading page or ltemplate fully uploaded, or a CSS. I know, its basic stuff, but its basic stuff I do not know. I have great marketing mind and a pretty dull technical one. As far as making the money thus far, found a good method, put my own twist on it, and watched it make me money. Thanks to all who responded.

Now that you'll have some time, spend a week doing Black Ink 2. You can fill 40 hours with that course and come out in a lot better shape than you are now in.

I used Trigatch's tutorial to make EPN sites, its very helpful!!

This was my first attempt at affiliation, started in September, i'm making around $6-700 a month so far with 5 sites. It's well worth a go if you have or manage to get an EPN account, a few people know have been rejected recently.

Good Luck!

Here's a little story for you mate.

Started my media company pretty young, was/am damn persistent and committed to myself and my business. Did GREAT my first few years doing professional servicing for big brands etc. Along comes a conglomerate client who retains me for a big site, and once complete brings me on board full time, 6 figures, salary, perks, the fucking works at a tender age of 20. First beamer, corner lot exec. home, banked quite a bit, word.

2.5 years later, I was laid off as the company decided to downsize and close. The execs are the first ones to go as it costs them the most to keep/saves them the most to lay off...

This crippled my ass for quite a few years and drained my mojo - as timing would have it, that's when all the outsourcing really started moving and what I would charge 10K for before with my company, can now be done for $900 overseas. Stuck in a rut for a while and had to sell the home and cash out, but had to keep my bimmer!!!

Anyway, thinking back now, it was a blessing in disguise, and has reassured me that I will never work for the man ever again I don't care WHAT they pay me or how they retain me. Since then, and since getting over my rut, I'm doing extremely well for myself, get offers for 'retention' from big CO's often now, and it feels damn good to say 'no'!

Take this time to really see if you have what it takes to be your own boss full time, and if you have the stomach for the risk awareness you need and the rollercoaster it can be at times. As risky as this biz is (not just AM'ing, but all online moniezes), it's also way more lucrative than any exec job or huge salary (I value my time more than my money, and that is the only reason I now have money). Consider it a blessing and use your time now wisely.

Hope that motivates you a little.
N.

NCMedia,

Thanks for the inspiring story. It's lessons are relevant now more than ever. Oftentimes, the greatest challenges bring opportunities which usher in even greater rewards. The independence of working for yourself is often the greatest reward. It's really hard to let that go regardless of the economic times. Like you, I was "pushed" into self-employment: I worked for a VC firm late in the first Dot Com bust. The bust happened and I went into affiliate marketing. Self-employed ever since. If it weren't for the push of the Bust, I would not have discovered the great benefits and personal fulfillment that self-employment brings.
