I'm curious, is anyone here OSCP certified from Offensive Security?

Seems like a pretty good course, which I think I'll have to take once I free up some time. Offensive Security was started by the developers of http://kali.org/, which is the gold standard of security vulnerability testing. Sounds pretty cool though. Once you're done the course, for the final certification exam they give you a server environment and say, "you have 24 hours to successfully hack in and gain administrative privileges, and if successful, you pass and are certified".

Anyone been through the course before?
 


If you are looking at taking the course/exam to learn and have fun... I'd say it looks cool.

But if you are looking for something to stack your resume... it might not help you much.

I've been out of the IT field for a while but... CISSP was the standard for high end security professionals. And Security+ was good for entry level. (The Cisco CCNA/CCNP security stuff was in-demand as well.)

I have not taken the course... but this is just a warning from someone who has seen a lot of certifications come and go (I'm looking at it just from a job/employment perspective).

Nah, not really for a resume. I'm way too unemployable to worry about that.

More less for the actual security knowledge itself, and with that help build a reputation of keeping sites secure, which in turns makes it easier to find and build trust with clients.

OSCP is actually meaningless .
If you are familiar with the pre-kali distro which is Backtrack , this will be a piece of cake.

Better yet just download a ebook here Kali Linux Cookbook | Packt Publishing

or get it for free on a torrent site . Set up Kali on VWware and get a hang of the tools.

Whatever offensive security is charging is ridiculous for a certificate which is not even recognised and most information taught by those guys is available for free online.

Nevertheless learning Kali is VERY VERY interesting and gives you an actual practical insight about hacking rather than "what is virus?" crap taught by CEH or anything else.

Edit : start off with "Nessus"/"OPENVas" vulnerability assessment tools (since you are into it ) .
