I keep an eye on sites for sale on SP, DP, etc. 99% of the sites I see are garbage.

How about this thread title: " Great Nintendo Forum forsale, making money and has a good user base." how much money is it making? "Adsense Earnings found here. About $2.00 in a month." :evil_laughter:

Granted, some of these sites with actual links may be worth it for BH, but come on. I am going to give this a shot, set up a site, send some backlinks, get it to make an astonishing $100 a month and see what i can sell it for.

I monitor them too. Most are junk but you have to watch out for a couple gems..err I mean don't watch leave them to me

The reality is most of the sites could be set up and gotten to the same point for less money than they are being listed for... however, in some cases there may be a design, set up or something about the site that makes it appealing to a potential buyer.

I have bought a few cheap sites in the past, and it was a waste of money each time.

That's what I'm asking... what revenue/quality level would a webmaster such as yourself expect in order for you to pay, say, $500 for a site?

For me it totally depends on where the traffic is coming from. I suspect most people wouldn't even notice. Assuming a pretty even distribution between google/yahoo/msn I would say $100 a month for $500. If the site has decent backlinks and PR you it would probably need to make $30-$50.

I love how every single sale is because of health problems. They must teach web design to terminally ill patients now.

Last year I sold quite a few sites on SP. Most of them sold because of their originality. I may not have been making much from the actual site, but the potential is there and if it's put in the right hands, you never know what could happen. It's a chance, but it's quick money for me and a chance for you.

I bought w57.net for $25. With about 2 hours of work and a little promotion, it's worth well over $25 now :)
