You might be surprised actually. Some of the marketing "rock star" guys do make money and video is integral to branding themselves.
 
It depends on the niche. I'm not going to collect leads for people buying refrigerators, for example... But if you're involved with a niche that pays to build a list then why wouldn't you? On the other hand, I don't start building a list until I see some buyer action first.
