OK - is this QFT or BS? How are your product review sites doing?

I got word from several affiliate marketers that Google dropped the hammer today on affiliate review pages. Many pages went from quality scores of 10 —> 1 overnight.
And these were NOT skinny sites, rather well build out, consistently updated blogs with good navigation above the fold, xml site maps, high click through, hyper-relevant keyword mapping, low bounce rates, long average time on page … everything else Google loves.

my 2 cents

1-affiliates pushed the edge on some promotions and google is pushing back and doing it hard .. via banning and slapping

2-I think it's good for affiliates that will take the time and effort to make google work for them

frankly there are too many courses pushing people toward affiliate marketing

this will make it harder for them and thus better for those that can make it work

Something has been changing in terms of how Google treats affiliates over the past 6-8 weeks, and now they seem to be ramping up bigtime.

I think we can thank the Acai + Bizopp pushers for probably fucking it up for all of us. Looks like Google has gone through in the past few months and put Adwords accounts in two categories: Affiliate, or Real Account. If you're labeled as Affiliate you're gonna have trouble.

I said fuck google a long time ago. Its made me work harder and be more creative. Its opened up whole other areas of traffic and offers that I can run consistently without worrying about who wants my money.

Repeat after me - fuck google. Unless its a biz kit of course.

I agree with a lot of what Perry said in that post. Just finished it myself, came here to see if it was actually happening to anyone or if it was just hype, and found this thread. In the post, he says he's been preaching the end of the thin affiliate for 5 years.

I don't know what you guys think of sugarrae, but reading Perry's post reminded me of one she wrote two years ago:

How to Survive the Affiliate Marketing Evolution - Sugarrae

I got slapped and so did a number of my competitors, even with review sites which had 6 pages of content about the offer. Then I saw one competitor with no navigation at the top and another with just the word "Ok" on the home page. Talk about inconsistency, unless G hasn't got to them yet. But yes, several competitors and myself got hit.

I say drop Adwords and use other ways to get traffic. Article marketing is doing very well for me.

Thank you!!! I could not agree with you anymore, I have been saying the same thing these days.

Affiliates are really taking a beating from them right now, as they seem to be treating us merely as bottom feeders in their holy kingdom!

Google, time to wake the fuck up!

My sites were all slapped about two weeks ago and they were pretty well developed. Google is definitely making an effort to dig deeper into affiliate strategies. The issue is, they are so big that they don't give a shit about trying to block specific categories. They could just go after weight loss and biz opps or even continuity in general (Facebook) but this is Google. They are so high level on this shit that they are just going to block anyone and everyone using "affiliate tactics."

I dare you to ask your contact at Google to define "affiliate tactics." My reps answer, "your reviews....aaaaaa....ummm....aaaa....they just won't approve it, I could try to present another site if you have one."

Post the answers you guys get from your reps, they are class-A morons, recruited from Berkeley and Stanford, never trained to interpret or ask questions, just to report to the man. Google is a joke.

i just heard that an ad network who serves remnant ad inventory from these big portals are getting the push back from the big portals to have more disclaimers and avoid rebill type offers. it's only going to get harder and more difficult to run rebill offers in the future anywhere on the web, especially those with significant traffic sources.

I seem to have heard more from our affiliates being slapped over the last 7 days (including some decent (and previously very effective) unique content sites) than at any other time.

As usual, perseverence is the key.

Why not just move on from Google?

Google tells you to fuck off than tell them right back to fuck off. Simple as that.

People only like adwords beacuse it's "convenient". If you want real money do offline shit or PPV.

That's where the millionaires are being made IMO.

Eric

P.S- Yeah, I know people were making 4-5 figures daily with adwords. And it's a bitch move on Google's part. But what can ya do?

Just got my top affiliate review site slapped this morning by the big G. Was doing $1k+ / day for months... It sucks for me because I've always relied on Adwords because it was so easy to set up and I was good at optimizing my campaigns.

I guess it's time to start learning some PPV or media buys.... Fuck Google

Got slapped today, but no big issue since

I'll be back

Slapped, I wish; I got the banhammer on every single one of my Adwords accounts. And it looks as if Yahoo and Adcenter will be quick to follow suit. Looks like I'll be moving into PPV very shortly.

Google have been real bastards when it came to this; they happily turned a blind eye to it for the last year, but the second FTC get involved, and there were threats of a law suit for the 'Google Profit' Biz Op's they suddenly point the finger at the advertisers and ban everyone involved. Typical example of a big corporation, quick to point the finger to avoid heat. This isn't no temporary ban either, it permanent. Google have so many Advertisers they don't give a fuck for the thousands a day I pump into their revenue.

If anyone is still somehow managing to promote Biz Ops on Google, I'd get your campaigns down asap or you're going to get hit. And Acai will probably be next.

Okay, so I assume it's oficially now that review site is not an option in future with Google ? Is it for that diet, white tooth, ringtones (and other rebils like acai and bizops) or for ANYTHING ?
