Just read the whole of that fuckin thread about the Shawn/Blastyourass thing, coming up with a load of insightful points to make... get to the end and find it fuckin closed!!

I'm really fuckin annoyed at that! Why close it? It's restricting freedom of speech and all that... you can only contribute to this thread if you happen to live in certain time zones or are nocturnal (which I pretty much am, but that's beside the point!)

My own fuckin fault - just noticed the closed button show on each page,. but didn't really look at it.

I'm not gonna go on about it here - but basically, the US college education system seems pretty fucked up to me.

It there anyway a closed thread could be marked in massive bold letters on the first page or something? Or just keep them open long enough for everyone to contribute?

</mini-rant>

Ummmm maybe you should look for Closed instead of reading everything? I look every time since that $16 million thread ended

There's a closed icon on the thread itself and if you missed it there, the next clue is at the bottom of every page where it says Closed instead of Post Reply.

LOL. I've learnt to look now! and my desire to rant has completely gone after a stupidly long post on the Africa thread!

Ok, I have a few thoughts on this whole debacle:

1. I used to do that in college, but I'm not proud of it. I also didn't really think I was ripping anyone off. If you offer payouts for free signups, and I'm getting you free signups, I should get paid. Now I realize that it's more complex, but at the time I really didn't think so. I didn't have a clue about affiliate marketing back then so I didn't know how these sites (I was sending the traffic to porn sites) were using the signups. For all I knew it was worth the money just to get these fools' email addresses and credit card numbers. I think when you're immersed in an industry you forget how little the general public understands that industry.

2. I went to the same college as this kid and was there when this happened (I graduated in 2001). It's a small school.

3. It's not me.

4. I think what Shawn did was justifiable, but I also think bragging about it makes you look like an asswipe. Some of us would do the same thing if someone pissed us off and then threatened us, but to brag about it 6 years later is something else.

The title of that thread was:

I caught it in my feed reader and ran over to find out
what I'd done wrong, but the thread was already closed.

So just wanted to say - 5 Star didn't do it! :error:

But I support Shawn in his efforts to clean up the industry! :anon.sml:

if you support what that dbag did, than I cannot support you.

So Shawn is a vindictive guy... big deal. BH'ers spend their time trying to game the system, and the guys running the "systems" are going after the BH'ers trying to shut them down.

I think the truth is that most BH'ers assume the worst they'll get is a slap on the wrist. Except for Myspace / Richter, I haven't heard of many examples within our industry of BH'ers getting punished for their actions. Shawn stepped it up a notch to make sure that the kid felt penalties for his actions. Most of you would do the same.

Break the rules, there are penalties. Maybe Shawn's penalties were a little severe, but regardless... Let's not forget, it was also the school itself that chose to suspend / expel the kid - odds are because he violated the schools internet use policy (just a guess tho). Odds are the kid is doing just fine now.
