Asking for a Review - Where Did I go Wrong?

Hmmm, missed this one till now.

hookshot: Did you build this from a template? by hand? a bit of both?
If you did it from a template, can I recommend some software like EZGenerator?
I really suck at web developing, and it's pumped out some rather nice looking sites for me in the past. Horribly optimized and bandwidth hogging sites, but they're pretty and easy to navigate.

Emp: nice job there. Looks way better, and the grid explanation was actually really easy to follow.

Awesome post emp! I am sure at least the tip about using a layout grid will definitely help others including me.

... and nothing changes.

Some people do not want to earn money.

thats the saddest thing, and after they complain, "what do I do wrong? Can't get any conversions". Plain stupid, anyways, great advices emp. Hope I will get a chance to use your help sometime when I will get in the business

I did change it... sorry emp, I did actually take all of your advice. After Gumby suggested that I change the wording for the ads, I did that, and I also changed the name of the file to which it was pointed.

So unfortunately since I can't edit my first post, the link in the first post is the one that no longer having traffic sent to it.

The link getting all the traffic, for which I did implement all of your suggestions, is here: Get Your Free Trial of Trails.com

I can tell great advice when I see it, the instant I read your post I went and changed it all. It would be hugely disrespectful anyways not to, just because you spent so long with the screenshots and everything.

Looks much better than the first attempt. I'd make the following changes:

- place a large title "Hiking Trail Maps" somewhere at the top (better on left than right; that's where the visitors are looking first); it assures the visitor that he got to the right place after clicking the ad

- add Privacy policy, Contact info, Copyright etc. at the bottom; not only Google likes it but it adds credibility in the visitors' eyes

Good luck and keep us posted how the campaign goes.

Now its starting to look good. Great post emp.
Couple more things I noticed
Your top banner also says click here.. But its not a link.. I would fix that also. Also you might want to make all pictures on there links for the click happy people. You need to get rid of that ugly affiliate link and use something like a php redirect on that same domain your hosted on. Just my opinion I am no expert.

Shit, thanks for noticing that for me, that completely slipped past me.

Finspin, thanks as well, working on those now!

I would:

1. Change the green color "Click here to..." to something that's more readable. It's kind of hard to read on that background.

2. Make all the pictures clickable.

the page that emp came up with is a lot better, it is a good idea though to make every single picture on that page a link to sign up. also, just my opinion but that shadow of a guy in the picture up top, reminded me of michael from halloween, kinda creepy. but that could just be because i recently watched the new version of that movie. you are making progress! every step in the right direction is good, dont give up!

wow.. cool.

Now just keep us updated if your profit changes.

Well after changing the ads my CTR on Yahoo has gone up to around 2%, and then I have give or take 20% conversion to the actual trails site. Unfortunately, no actual signups, so I'm playing around with keywords a little bit to see if I can improve on it.
