AticlesBase pulling down 500 large a month?

Just saw the article and was thinking about posting on WF. . . Kind of amazing thinking that an article directory is banking 500k a month, awesome.

Uh no. I see the death for Article Base now. Some other blogger will complain how Google searches are cluttered with AB spam articles that are simply there for SEO purposes. Hundreds will comment and complain. Google will 'change' their algorithm (specifically add a line to remove all AB articles from the top 100), and AB's profits will go to $0.

Oh wait. AB has adsense blocks all over them so Google will just ignore this article.

Well, a lot of those people are stupid for submitting those articles to article base for free anyways because all the links in their articles are NO-FOLLOW. It won't even make a dent in their SEO. Those idiots I tell you!

Oh, the irony.

And how did techcrunch get that income number? Did AB tell them? WTF is wrong with people. I would never ever ever ever tell anyone how much I make. All it does it put a bullseye on you. Just like that guy who sold sunglasses bragging about his SERPs.

The Russian dude was banking by being a fucking ass cancer to people unlucky enough to come into contact with him, googz had good cause to stop his little SERP backdooring. AB has a legit business, and it's not like Google doesn't know or at least have a really good idea of how much they bring in if it's mostly adsense monies.

I'll agree he was an ass cancer.. but that's not why he was ranking. You could have done a little research on his backlinks to see what he was doing.

This guy wouldn't have been caught by Google if he didn't brag about gaming the SERPs. And WTF is SERP backdooring? He injected a virus in the algorithm? He was doing nothing different than what you see on here.

If people complain that AB has all low quality articles just made for SEO or whatever else some blogger might complain about and that you have to click a link to get to the final result, that would be an issue. Google likes to show the final result.. not a page where you have to go to another page to get the final result.

im not sure if nofollow actually does what it was designed to do these days.

Everyone is nofollowing the crap out of stuff, and being pagerank whores, nofollow was designed speocifically for blog comment spam, and now people are stopping from giving legitimate sites, legitimate credit. Even on links with editiorial citiations, are crapped out with nofollow.

I'd like to see a up to date test on the effect of nofollow, if you can find a way to reliably test this.

Agreed, not sure why we aren't on the same page.

And WTF is SERP backdooring? He injected a virus in the algorithm?

backdooring is just another way of saying gaming. In *theory* backlinks equate to value, ergo links must mean his site was high quality, that wasn't the case, yet there he was close to the top.

He was doing nothing different than what you see on here.

Agreed again, and lots of people on here go to great lengths to make sure google doesn't know who they are or what sites they own.

I don't see what you are getting at, you start off on low quality content but then seem to complain about blog posts that have a "Click to continue reading..." link which is pretty common on lots of high quality editorial sites?

My original point concerning your response was, if you're above the board and you choose to disclose your financials then you shouldn't have to worry about anything. A lot of it boils down to pundits unwillingness to separate "bad actor" content farms like efreedrom.com or omgili from true content sites like ehow or AB that they deem to not have content quality up to their standards.

I'm actually looking for a plugin that allows visitors to submit articles (FREE BACKLINK OMG!) to a few of my seo sites- good way to get unique content. Anyone know of anything that works?

edit: wordpress sites

You guys don't see it do you. Why else would AB share their revenue details with a site like TC other than to draw attention from potential buyers.

Look at all the sites that have been sold for big $$$ and now the content farm model is going to come under scrutiny so they probably want to bail and make out like a bandit.

Props to them for having a profitable business, but anyone would have to be crazy to invest in them or buy them... all their traffic comes from Google. That means they're one algorithm change away from no income.

(Although seeing as most of their revenue comes from adsense, there is a conflict of interest for G)

Seobook has good post about content farms:
