Attorney General Madigan Files Suit Against local affiliate marketer

That list hasn't been released yet, they'll probably start issuing subpoenas to the domain registers and web hosting providers soon but based on the complaint, if you used Dr. Oz/Oprah's name in your domain, used their names/images in your ad copy/banner ads, or used their images/video/logos on your LP and advertised on google/yahoo/msn/facebook then there is a 99% chance you're on the list. If you just made a quick reference on your LP such as "I first heard about acai on Oprah" then you're probably safe, unless you made it look like she was endorsing the particular product you were promoting.

Holy shit, procrastinating on getting my re-bill offers running pays off big time.

Might need to rethink another project, I'm guessing if O hammers hard like this, T*R*U*M*P will bring the pain too.

Am I the only one curious why this was mainly targeted at affiliates & distributors? I think there's a middleman in between the 2 that was left off the guest list.

Not trying to stir up a hornet's nest here & scream informant ... it just seems a bunch odd to me.

oh well, non USA affils should be safe :P
Federal Trade Commission will fight Internet Crime across Borders - Blogger News Network

"Authorizes the FTC to share information with criminal authorities, which will improve information sharing with foreign agencies that treat consumer fraud and deception as a criminal law enforcement issue."

"
Permits the FTC to work with DOJ to increase the resources relating to FTC-related foreign litigation, such as freezing foreign assets and enforcing U.S. court judgments abroad."

had a old domain i regiter with dr oz in it hit 40 times today from a page i jjst had sitting around that i never promoted. must have found its way to the search engines and had a refer from Whois.com

They are STILL LOOKING for people to add to the list. If you even have a Domain or page up that your not even promoting my advice is to take it down.

i'd guess thats for US citizens who hide their assets abroad, so the FTC can go and pursue and freeze it regardless of where it is.

that's not the way i read it at least. sounds to me like they just made it easier for them to go after foreigners that are victimizing us citizens.

Normally, the middleman is also invited to this sort of party...:bigear:

Man, I REALLY doubt they would go after someone in India, Africa, Argentina, or some other country like that, having hundreds of people to sue and make an example of in USA and Canada alone. Its just years of trouble and red tape, not worth it. And I'm pretty sure everyone will get the message with the US lawsuit alone and stop using fake endorsement alltogether, wherever they are.

they're also suing for false advertising, not just endorsements, so even if there's no "oprah" it could still be a red flag
