I am looking into various approaches to back links. I would like to take the high road if possible and build quality (rather than mass junk links) back links. Any suggestions as to the top 2-3 things to do this would be appreciated. Thanks!

Lol mike - get yerself links from as many different places possible, except them bad neighborhood ones. I would look into SEO spyglass . You will know from there what links you need based off what is already working for your competitors. And it just got updated and is kicking @ss

Interesting--thanks for the feedback. I am seeing there are a variety of options. I hear social media sites, wiki, edu, gov. If my site is geared to casino information (not an online casino--more how to articles, reviews, etc., which niche might be best? In other words, wouldn't gov sites be less likely to backlink to my site Casino Des Plaines?

A few ways of getting quality backlinks
- Create link baits
- Get backlinks from social networking websites
- Participate in discussion boards
- Blog commenting, blogging and guest blogging

If you purchase back links, is the primary benefit a) improved search ranking or B)generating clicks to your site, or C) both? Also, for wiki back link, is this a link to your site you insert in a wikipedia article? This seems to only be allowed in the references section of wikipedia, correct? All inks within the article only link to wikipedia articles, as far as I can see.

  7. Create profiles on social networking sites and be active there.
  8. Participate in forums related to your niche.
  9. Answer questions asked on Q&A sites.
  10. Publish content that’s useful for others.
  11. Create some tutorial videos and how-tos if possible and publish.
  12. Make a page on your site for FAQs.
  13. Provide Online Support, Live Chat facility or a toll free number.
  14. Make some good articles and publish them on Guest Posting Sites.
  15. Be active on Twitter and Digg and Google+1.
  16. Spend more time on writing quality content.

Thanks for the great suggestions. Obviously there is some work to do on my own. I am writing a wiki article and will provide my site as a backlink. But mostly I do not have time to promote and write. So here is the $64,000 question (more like the $40 question). Being objective, if I want to maintain integrity and want decent bang for the buck cost-wise, where would you spend your $40 a month budget for backlinks? Edu, scoial media, high PR, etc. In other words, the budget is limited but hopefully can still make an impact on search rankings.
