Best domain registrar?

Not seeing much love for name.com. I only have 2 domains, they're both hosted on name.com and I haven't had any problems. Namecheap is apparently cheaper though so I will try them out.

I use godaddy also, however namecheap is cheaper if your using domain privacy.
I fucking hate GoDaddy, they raped me for several hundred dollars a few years ago. Then rather than refund, when they admitted they'd fucked up, they gave me credit, which about 6 months later they 'removed' the credit than denied me ever having it. That isn't all they've done to me either, they are hateful, hateful, hateful shady cheating cunts. I'd rather cut my cock off and buy web hosting with 1and1 than trust them with anything even close to being of value.

I have to try out Moniker, but had no problems with Domainsite or Namecheap since the last couple of years.

I'd like to find a registrar with good prices and free whois

While you won't find the 1$ domain baits at namecheap like you do some other places you get free WhoIS guard and SSL certificate. So even at 8$ those additions make the value, their control panel is pretty easy to use, and I don't have to go thru a crap load of sales pitch to check out.

I am not considering the $1 deals etc, I'm talking about regular prices.
it's free for one year, after that it should cost $2.88 per year per domain

I prefer dreamhost to be honest. Easy interface to get to know, registrations are pretty quick, only thing that sucks is no bulk regs.

The best registrar is the one with free whois protection and that you're most comfortable with.

1&1 has good prices, but their interface fucking blows, so I'd rather pay an extra couple bucks for less hassle. Time > Money

I vouch for Moniker. Been with them for 4 years now with a reseller account.. the best domain registrar for me.. formerly owned by a fellow domainer..

I have used Dreamhost till last year for 4 domains, good prices and free domain privacy. Very good support.
But their own panel sucks, I prefer a c-panel.
And their dns settings are not good if you want a full control over your domains.

GoDaddy had a run on $1 domains (1 per account) but if you use different payment methods its not a bad way to pick up some extra names. Had my share of issues with them, but nothing that would stop me using them for that.

I've had horrible support and downtime with dreamhost for over 8 months, I quite using them at the end of 2008. I recommend against registering a domain with them if you host with them host, but register your domains elsewhere.

though I thought I already mentioned that (guess I didn't) but even 2.88 is still better than 9$ more with godaddy for privacy, not to mention godaddy upsells you hard every single fucking time. :D I still don't know what all their account setting pages are and where they are I only mess with the domain name control as pretty much everything else is a clusterfuck there.

I agree they suck, I'll never be back to dreamhost (only 4 domains to test them).
But believe me their support was very fast for me, within 12 hours I had always everything solved.

Most of my domains are at Godaddy and Netfirms(picked up a heap on a $1 promo). I have a few scattered around at other various registrars:

Name
Namecheap
Enom
Moniker
Dynadot

I haven't had any troubles with any of them, but I like Godaddy because they have 24/7 phone support and it doesn't cost me anything to ring them, because they have a local number that redirects to Arizona. :D

Godaddy's site is very slow and clunky, and the checkout process is super annoying with all the advertising.

Namecheap, Moniker, Dynadot, Name and Netfirms are very good. The only problem is that Netfirms want ID matching the name on the Paypal account every time that I order or push domains to new accounts.

GoDaddy sucks monkey cock. They'll remove your site for xrumer spam if they get enough complaints. Their user interface is the worst thing in the world. It's slow and clunky. I've been credited so many times for failures with their service it's laughable. It's never enough either. They're like "We noticed that you've had an interruption of service for a period of 48 hours. To compensate you for this, we're giving you a month of free hosting!" Fuck that! I could have made $900 in those two days if my site hadn't been down! Not only that, but they offer you a free month of HOSTING. They don't bother to tell you that they're not giving you a free month of your domain. So a shit lotta good it does you when you've got your shit hosted for free but have no domain name!

I still have one domain stuck on GoDaddy because I paid for like 5 years up front and it's not worth it to lose out on $350 to transfer my domain to someone else. I'll finally be free of that HORRIBLE company by 2012. If the world ends that year I'm gonna be like FUCK!!
