Best Screen Recording Software for Gameplay?

I have a 10-year-old son who desperately wants to make his own video tutorials and such. He uses a PC and has a webcam and headphone set coming for Christmas. The only piece I still need to figure out is what sort of screen recording software would be best for this sort of project.

I'm hoping that y'all will share some suggestions that are not outrageously expensive, but high quality enough to keep up with and record game play.

Thanks!

AMD video cards have raptr and it seems pretty good. It is included with the Suite Driver package.

I'll second OBS (open broadcaster software) ... works great for video tutorials, but you can also connect it to Twitch.tv(which I assume is what your son actually wants to do)

This way he can live stream his games, build some sort of community. Make sure he has a nice web cam, it's going to help with building his following. If he does it right and is consistent, he can actually make some good coin.
