Best way to create screenshots of mpeg like videos?

I'm wondering what some of you guys are doing or have done to easily create screenshots of mpeg movies, or formats like that?

I have a trial version of Snagit but for some reason i can't get a full screenshot and i doubt it's even possible with Snagit to do this.

I need something that when i press a key it allows me to frame the freezed video screen.

One solution i have used results in a total black screenshot so it's totally useless and the Snagit solution only gives me a partial screenshot.

Any suggestions ideas of software i could use for this?

for pete's sake.

Press alt + print screen on your keyboard. If that doesn't work and you have a decent media player, it should have a screen capture in the drop down menu. If not go download Media Player Classic. It allows for screen capture, it's free, plays everything and has a small footprint.
