Anybody have an idea where you would go to perhaps get a somewhat stable clone of tinder? At least something substantial enough of a foundation where you could go in and make your own modifications.

Or would the best way would be just build it from the ground up? I have a client wanting to launch something in a smaller international market where he's located.

Obviously the clone would save alot of time and money over building it from scratch.

I built something like tender recently. Billed it out for 50K and had it built for 9k.

fawk me, where the hell do you find these clients! i'd still be happy with 9k back when i was broke. was that for just iOS or both iOS and Android?

Curious to know what cost you 9k? If you built it yourself why would it cost 9k?

lol did the client contact you today after the $5b valuation

how much is he paying? what platforms?

ha he actually hit me up 15 months ago when tinder was like 3 months old and saw the potential of it early having lived in utah and seeing everybody there use it! i loved the idea but didn't see any profit potential initially.

the valuation def helped the cause but i def see potential in that part of the world. plus i speak the language too and was able to recently talk to a huge group of people from there about the app. Nobody has any idea what it is mostly due to probably language differences. Still i see huge potential.

Tinder is pretty simple for an app. If you hired it out on oDesk and knew what you were doing it would be around 9k or less like SkyFire said. Less if you were able to deal with cheaper programmers I assume he charges a US rate per hour.

You wont find anything prebuilt that is for sure, best bet is to start from scratch with some programmers and build it out. If I was to do it I would build it out in Appcelerator, but I build all of my apps in it.

If offer help but I am waist deep in my own new app that I am building.

More often than not it's not worth fucking with the cheaper bids on those sites.

I just hired a chinese guy who charges $55/hr but his overall bid for the project was cheaper than people charging $16/hr.

True... I have been meaning to try out someone more capable. Sometimes I wish the results came out better the first time around. But since I am also a developer I just have the cheap guys make the code I can't and if it looks like shit then I just fix it myself. I have two guys that I work with in India and we have worked together on 5 projects so I pretty much have a team and I know what they are capable of.

It usually costs me 2-3k an app with my team, obviously there are countless hours put in on my end to supplement it. But I don't have the cash to hire a US developer.

If you have the cash and are not a programer your self then yeah go with the $55/hr guy.

I work as a developer and occasionally hire people for my boss for very specific tasks writing custom objective c and java plugins for ios and android, where I'm not as knowledgeable and I just go right to someone that specializes in whichever it is.

This time I got a few quotes, the first was from another company for $1800, saying it was 2.5 days of work, then I ended up going with the $55/hr guy and it was $700. Then it frees me up to continue with the rest of the project.

i outsourced a small new feature of my app to a russian coder on odesk for $600. he was very good but i've spent about 2 weeks (srs) since trying to incorporate into my app. nothing's ever simple. i probably would have been just as quick just coding it myself.

OP if you want to deliver the highest quality product that will work as effectively as possible and not be prone to glitches, crashes, etc. I would highly suggest not using something like Appcelerator or phone gap.

You want a native app that you know will work properly all the time.

Also, not sure why anyone is saying you can't find anything prebuilt. A quick google search pulls up tinder clones, and one actually looks pretty professional.

However, if you have the bank roll and time I would highly suggest having something made from scratch to fit your specific needs. If you do end up hiring someone from a freelance site, and they are not from the United States, the UK, or Canada, then make sure they are from Russia, Germany, Poland, or Ukraine.

Design was around 5k, and there is server side stuff I needed done that made up about 3k, and then misc expenses. My time invested was about 100 hours or so.

(missed the first half when my connection died during an edit)

Agencies. These guys take on projects for a hundreds of thousands, and for one reason or another often end up not being able to handle the work (over booked, behind, in over their heads, etc). They are stuck so they outsource.

I put together a different crew for every client project I work on, when the budget allows. When it doesn't I do it all myself.
