Bevo Media Launch

Just signed up to give this test, congrats on the launch guys.

What sort of hardware does this need to run on, currently I've got a 768 VPS doing my tracking but p202 struggles when doing a reasonable amount of PPV traffic.

We've done lots of performance testing, and we've tried to make it fast. Our tests found that live traffic varies wildly, depending on tons of factors, and we can't really provide any meaningful metrics. "Reasonable PPV traffic" could mean anything, depending on who you are.

What we can say is this -- We tested a direct link with Apache AB, which is software that basically just emulates lots of clicks. On a preconfigured Rackspace selfhost instance with 512mb of RAM, Bevo selfhost serves 120 hits per second, with an average redirect time of 390ms (about .4 seconds). You can test this yourself.

When we took an identical server in the same datacenter, installed Prosper, and ran the same test we got 65 requests per second. On average, Prosper's redirect took about ~720 milliseconds.

We built a tool to automatically setup just such a server for you, and you can later scale it up or down as you please, brought to you on Rackspace Cloud. Our tool launches a clean, fresh server, runs only the commands to install Bevo and it's dependencies, and then locks it up nice and secure.

For the fastest, easiest install process possible, we strongly suggest using our Rackspace Cloud servers and use our automatic Wizard tool, or the Ubuntu installation script. That way you know you are using a quality server with quick load times, and will have no problems installing the self hosted version.

SEO Mike- Honestly no specific reason at all. In fact - we are going to make it the address and phone field *Not required*, something i didn't think about before. Thanks for pointing out :)

I didn't figure it was, so I used Google's address for my signup :D

Hey Lee, does RAM affect the speed? If so, by how much? I think my machine has 16 or 24 (can't remember) gig of RAM.

Beyond ~1-2GB of ram, you probably won't see much effect. I'd consider increasing disk speed (solid state drive, or at least a 15krpm drive) for performance boosts.

I'll admit I'm kind of hesitant about using anything besides 202 because 202 is all i know.... but this looks absolutely sick! Can't wait to try this out.

Alright just accepted a ton more people. Sorry about the delay. I wanted to fix up all the current found bugs before we let more in. Let me know if you need any help.

Thanks for the quick approval Ryan. Looking forward to checking everything out.

Just finished setting it up with the help of Ryan... Thanks a lot man.

If anyone is running into Internal 500 errors after it's installed, try deleting the two lines that start with "php_value" from .htaccess, should be lines 2 and 3. If you delete these lines from .htaccess, you have to make sure PHP is configured with "Magic quotes = Off" and "short open tags = on".

I love the rackspace API based install on the self hosted version, killer feature!!

What's the TAT on approvals? I signed up yesterday morning and haven't received any confirmation.

I tried to add my Azoogle account to my self hosted version and it still says nothing is there, same with Eagle.

Andy - on self hosted it wont appear until the stats update (it updates the 15th minute of every hour.) If this doesnt appear to you let me know.

IMHopeful - PM me your email - you should be approved.

So why would someone spend 400k developing something they planned to give open source for free?

are VC's pouring money into affiliate tracking platforms?

i don't think they'd be releasing it as open source if they were wanting to take on VC...

and anyways, VC's these days usually invest in internet companies who haven't coded anything yet :food-smiley-010:

johnysc, We have several revenue models, they are just focused around people who want the luxury of extra support (consulting, marketplace, premium support etc.) . As I said in my original post, I have done everything possible to make this free to the general userbase. VCs are normally cash hungry and dont know the industry as well as they need to, to realize the industry standard of *free* is already set.

Havent been approved yet, but whats the PPV tracking like? Do I still need to mess with Trafficvance target reports and excel spreadsheets?
