BitCoin Gets Laundering Rule

Oh, its illegal to launder money?

Hopefully this is as effective as making drugs illegal.

I don't think this means anything significant. If anything it seems that they understand that they can't regulate it in a literal sense.. They can only scare the sheeple with all this talk of the black market and laundering money while hoping that people stop using it.

Anyone with half a brain who discovers bitcoin will use it at least in some sense. I mean it could potentially save you a great deal of money (taxes, payment processing)... Making it worth the risk of investment.. As more people realize how we could all get raped by the USD, they will accept bitcoin. As more people dump their country's currency for the currency that can NEVER be reproduced by the 'central' system, it will become more valuable.

Maybe.

@lukep

I guess you gais didn't see us talking about this over in the other thread yesterday?

Totally not newsworthy. In fact I see it as good news for bitcoin.

Realistically all this will do is make it harder to cash out your account. And let's be real: there's a lot of interesting ways to do that, among them getting prepaid CCs for it. Hard to do in volumes like 10k, but totally workable.
It's still the easiest way to launder money if that's what you're into, and it always will be.

They're not saying this to scare money launderers... They're saying it to convince 'society' that it's unsafe/scammy/illegal.

This MIGHT be something that separates the men from the sissies. Money talks bull shit walks... I am definitely going to start dealing in bitcoin especially in my BST thread on here.

They're trying to convince society it's unsafe/scammy/illegal by placing it under the same laws as every other similar monetary transaction?

I mean you can say that, yeah. The United States dollar (backed by nothing) can be printed and controlled by the government.. So unless we assume that they will always work in our best interest, Then the USD is in fact unsafe, right?

Bitcoin is something that can't be reproduced once its all out there. It's also not backed by anything, but it can't be controlled or reproduced by a central power.

I don't think bitcoin will be as popular in the United States as it will be in other countries. I do think that it has the possibility to open a lot of people's eyes to something new.

I think if I had a 2nd home or timeshare or something I really didn't want, I'd sell it cheaply for ONLY bitcoins right now. It would be a good loss if you don't need it; and by the time you get your hands on the bitcoins you'd have brought major limelight to bitcoin, started a trend across the world, and BTC itself would obviously have gone up in price during that time.

Bitcoin Real Estate domains anyone? ;)

I think you're onto something. Big stunts like that are smart for the currency at this stage.

lukep, why did you create the bitcoin blog on wordpress.com instead of your own domain? Just curious..

Definitely we're hearing this alot now: cyprus, europeans fleeing the EURO for bitcoins ;) I guess they were properly 'motivated' to make that move. I'm wondering what's been the trend here in the states with the 'prepping for the worst' crowd? Get gold & silver coins, more guns, storage foods & water. But I'm guessing bitcoins is also encouraged?

I'd be grateful if you could point me to any links, threads, etc, on bitcoin forums that discusses all this. Maybe lukep knows? :usa:

If it doesn't end in .onion you're in the wrong place.
