Building a site around the offer?

I am wondering is it better to build the site around the affiliate offer? Say it is ringtones. Should you build a landing page? or a site about ringtones like a blog and have offers and banners?

Which provides the best ROI? Or is better for traffic to signing up conversions?
 


I'm not into ringtones (and most likely never will be) but I would think that for that niche, people visiting your site looking for ringtones wouldn't really care about READING about ringtones so much as they would want to just ge the ringtones.

However, if you have a music-related site (American Idol, Nelly, whatever else kids listen to...) then popping your affiliate link on there that leads to a landing page would be a good idea, of course.

But yeah, how interested do you think people are in reading about ringtones?
 
I was really using that as an example. Say you have a moblie phone forum is it better to put a banner ad up or write up some content about the offer, and give a link to sign up is really my question.

Yeah, I got that it was an example, but my point was that it's all relative to what you are trying to sell.

If it's diet stuff for fat ladies, then write about it in a positive but not-too-obvious manner stating that it's good stuff.

If you have a mobile phone forum and you want people to sign up for ringtones, why not stick a banner up between the first and second post of each thread? So it's right in people's faces all the time. Not at the very top or on the side.

I'm serious tell me the secret we all want to know it, I know its just got to be on little thing, I know its got to be something that will only take me 5 minutes of work with no reading and no learning what so ever.

haha I was being sarcastic if anyone was wondering.

I love those questions just because you get to screw with people when they ask them, I usually don't screw with them online but when someone asks me that offline I usually say "Its by the G in Google".

People look at you like "What the fuck are you talking about".
 
Whether you use a site or a landing page really depends on what traffic you're going send it. If you're using PPC, a landing page would be fine. If you wanted something longer term that is going to get organic traffic then a site would be better. Depending on the offer, you can make a pretty big site for it. Look at south beach diet for example
