Buying an Aged Domain - Keeping it's age?

Do I risk losing the domain age when purchasing it?

If so, are there any steps I can take to ensure I keep the domain age?

I ask because i'm looking to purchase a domain bought in 1997. It wouldn't be near it's value if I lost this domain age.

I think as long as it doesn't drop it keeps its age, change of ownership / DNS shouldn't matter.

It may keep it age but if the site is not there it is basically starting over when it comes to serps.. gorg is smart like that.
