Buying text links on HUGE websites to promote

I just purchased a 20.00 textlink for 30 days on the right sidebar of rapmusic.com's message board. heres the stats from their advertising page:

Depending on the time of the year, RapMusic.com averages between 10-15,000 uniques per day and serve up between 11-15 million page views per month.

Our Alexa rating ranges from 10k-20k per week.

The heart of our site is our community, it ranks as one of the top 5 Entertainment/Music boards on the internet.

I purchased one for an adult affiliate, which is similar to bumfights, except they got lots of hot naked chicks. I will post let you know how it goes when the ad goes live.

Anyone else ever purchased a link on a big site like this linking directly to your affiliate and got a good return?
 


I've tried it with text-links a few weeks ago. Didn't get a good return because my link was placed on the very bottom of the site.
 
yea, im afraid that where its at on this site will get overlooked as well. but for 20.00 i couldn't resist trying. one sale from it will pretty much double my money. so i can't resist the urge. its on the right side right under the big ad so im hoping it gets clicked with the title text i used. lol.
 
I think it's best to go directly to the site owner, that way you can work out a deal on where to place your link and for how much. So use a link brokering service to find a good site, but contact the owner for the actual deal.

yeah, $20 for 30 days is a deal, hopefully youll get some clicks. Adbrite or TLA is really hit or miss for me. Ive spent alot trying to find good deals on adbrite. I hardly ever get the traffic that they estimate you'll get, buut i found a few gems that were pretty cheap
 
10 to 15K per day is a decent ammount of traffic, though I would never pay for a link unless it is being placed in the side bar of a google, MSN, Yahoo search.........

pay .10 per clcik for a search term that gets searched 100K a day
 
I have good luck buying ads directly on sites. I'm running paid spots on a couple of large adult sites and sending directly to a dating sponsor. Seems to work well
