Cable Modem Recommendations + Boobies

It's time I upgrade my cable modem to match the higher speeds of my isp. They want me to buy one of theirs which of course is bullshit cus its more expensive and of course crappier. So I want to buy one super powerful bamf so I won't have to upgrade it for a long time.

Seems pretty bamf but not sure about its compatibility and reliability and its ability to filter out noise (i live at the very top of a tall ass hill and it takes a modem with an adjustable frequency range to get the correct speed without cutting out since theres a lot of old cable between me and the nearest repeater).

Anyone have a good recommendation?

I have a 6120, bought it based on the previous performance of my 5100 and 5120s. Current uptime is "Since I Got It" which would be about 90ish days.

Compared to my 5120 it screams, but my area supports Docsis 3.0 already, so that was bound to happen. I have Comcast on the 20down/5up plan or whatever and I get pretty close to those speeds wirelessly (usually about 18/4).

You can also crack the 6120 so it uses... can't think of the word... let's just say it's "threaded" so it uses multiple connections. If you are so-inclined.

I just upgraded my old Linksys WRT54g to the new WRT400n and now the wifi screams on the n and g channels. Been running a Motorola/Linksys setup for nearly 10 years and never had an issue with my equipment (hehehe... he said "equipment").

I used to have an old surfboard I think 4100 that I had hacked. It was awesome! I didn't know you could still do that with the new ones. If so I'm going to have to figure out how to do that and find out how to thread it.

That works for me with the business-class stuff. Since I actually have a rep whose name I know and is actually local.

For consumer level it seems like they usually give you something cheap and I don't trust it. Although I head the 6120 is available from Comcast in some areas.

Stumbled across a forum about it when I was researching my purchase. I never bookmarked it because I just don't have time to keep up with all of that anymore.

Just did a couple quick searches and couldn't find anything for the 6120. Pretty sure I don't need to tell you where/how to look though ;)

I believe the way they do it these days is to exploit the channels that Comcast uses to send firmware updates to modems, or enable their "speed burst" capabilities on the modem full time.

That aside, solid modem.
