... who the hell are these people that are buying ringtones?

I've never hung out at a party and heard someone say "oooh I just bought these new ringtones, check it out."

I see these offers convert. I see iTunes adding a 100% surcharge to take a song you've already bought and chop it in to a 30 second segment. Who are these people???

Highest converting demographic: black women ages 16 - 24

Do you hang out with a bunch of 16 - 24 black women?

Aren't these the same people who whine non-stop about being denied opportunities like receiving a good education, being hired in a high paying job and meanwhile they're on Welfare with a high school education (or less)

Yet they somehow cough up the money to buy 50 cent's latest ring tone.

You'll find white people in trailers also have huge TV's with satellite service. It's not race related it's income and education related... the same reason low income people buy 50 lottery tickets each week when they can't even afford it... that lottery money is supposed to go to things like education (which it doesn't) and things for the community. But, it's all coming from poor people.

It's sad... but don't try to make it a race issue. There's also a little something called "peer pressure" and the need to "fit in" or "be popular" amongst young people especially.

No, truth be told I don't spend any significant amount of time hanging out with 16-24 year old black women. And no, OC doesn't have a huge amount of them...

I guess that was the answer I knew was out there... It just still kinda shocks my mind. Morons with money to spend on ringtones... Ugh.

Anything else wanted besides ringtones...

Are you guys finding this audience is mainly after the ringtones, or other downloadable content like wallpapers, videos and games? There are landing pages that focus on each of these as well. As mobile phones get more advanced, I wonder if these other segments are growing....

I just don't get how people can justify some of the purchases they make for cell phones... Wallpapers seem like a tough market because (a) most phones today have cameras and people prefer to put a custom picture in place and (b) it's usually pretty easy to find any old picture that isn't just a cell phone wallpaper.

But then again, I'm the same type that doesn't understand how companies can get away with charging $1.00+ for a 30-second soundclip of a song.
