Castle laws don't lower burglary rates?

I'd say that with a 17-50% increase in "justifiable homicides" (ie people getting shot when on a burglary), it's doing a nice job of culling the criminal population.

In places where people will be more likely to shoot you for breaking in, you would think that criminals would be less likely to break in. If they are not less likely to break in, then I think that reflects a lack of planning and/or intelligence on the behalf of the criminals.

The point isn't to lower the rate of burglary anyway. Instead, it's to give people an opportunity to defend what is theirs without having the government on the side of the person trying to steal from them.

Here's an article about [what I think is] the study: http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/unfairpark/2012/06/texas_am_study_castle_doctrine.php

So it doesnt stop or slow the burglaries, ok.

Ill still take my right to shot someone if they break in my house, because chances are they are armed.

QFT - I buy a house, pay taxes on it, work hard to put things in it. I got a license, got a gun. I did it all legally. I should damn well be able to use it on whoever breaks into my house, if they are armed or not, if they are giving their back to me or not, white or black, young or old, whatever. They are a menace to me and mine. I'm not a mind reader. I don't know if the intruder is armed. Either way, I'm gonna shoot the fucker.

Just like having a rat in my house. Chances are, the rat carries diseases. It might not. I don't care. It is in MY SPACE. I am a territorial mammal. It has a good chance of hurting me or mine. Therefore, I'll try to harm it, before it can do that to me.

Every scumbag burglar I ever knew robbed when the family wasn't home. No one wants to be put in the situation where they have to kill someone or go to jail. People rob because its easy money, not because they're terrorizing sociopaths. Hence the lack of corrolation between having guns and preventing robbery.

Ahhh, another paragraph of wisdom from you, mate. Thanks for this, I'm gonna rest easy now.
