I'm sure this topic has been beaten like a dead horse (sorry...), but I'm looking to find some more KWs to rank for. I have a primary KW for my weight loss site, but I'm confused on what I should be looking for for secondary KWs.

I figure long-tail KWs will work themselves out eventually, but what is your approach for finding other KWs to target?

I know about Google Adwords Keyword Tool, but that is all I've used. I don't want to pay for something like Market Samurai just to find a few KWs.

Anything out there free that would do the trick?

Look in Google Analytics (or similar) to see what keywords people are using to find your site. Also, Google Webmaster Tools will show you the search queries where you are getting impressions. You should be able to come up with some interesting ideas based on those keywords. Both options are free.
 
If someone has great keyword research tool to offer, why would he offer it for free?

Good things come with a price tag... You can try free version of 'Keyword Country'.
