Deliguy, I think you took Joe's comment out proportion. I don't think he was saying all poor people are stupid. The example of the $300/year clickfraud thing is just financially stupid. You are spending all this time doing something dishonest for only a dollar or less a day.

I don't think it is unreasonable to point out that many (note, i didn't say all) poor people are financially uneducated and therefore make some stupid decisions like the example in the article. Doesn't mean she is a bad mother or not a hard worker...

Your right man. I appologize. I overreacted to what i thought was the tone of the thread. When the real point behind the thread was on how stupid it was to join click fraud schemes. The same could be said about people who join pyramid and mlm schemes(ie deperate poor people). Its just a damn shame that these experienced marketers prey on people like that.

By the way, I think this click fraud thing is blown the hell out of proportion. All of these statistics, like "1 of every 10 clicks on text ad", are by companies that have click fraud software to sell. I got a class action notice from some legal firm against yahoo, they had a nice list of "click fraud" which included "non-converting clicks."

As a PPC ad buyer you are looking for targeted traffic. The less coss sensative you are, the more you are going to get hurt. Considering the mainstream engine's traffic converts pretty consistantly I'm not very concerned. We've had this discussion many time about certain 3rd tier engines which the visitors won't even click on other PPC ads, much less sign up. Companies like Looksmart are where the big con-artists are going, not Google. "Google keeps lists of hundreds of sites associated with pay-to-click networks, most of which he said target less-known search engines with weaker security controls."

Bottom line, if you are watching your traffic daily you know if its converting or not. Sure, you might be losing some money to click fraud, but retail stores lose money to shoplifters, banks lose money to defaults, etc. etc. Its the people who are spending thousands on ads and not paying any attention to the results that traffic is giving them who are getting screwed.
