Coffee, Yah or Nah?

I think Coffee in moderation is Ok. I want to say that on Cnn health channel is was 3 cups a day

I love me some Coffy.

Drinking a cup of strong coffee in the morning to get the day started. It's a matter of habit now, I think. Though I really enjoy it :food-smiley-010:

Coffee is good, in moderation. Lots of people go overboard, drinking it everyday it's not even giving you that energy buzz any more you're just addicted to the routine. I like to spread my usage out at least 3 days so my tolerance is low. And then I go all out drinking many many cups and the high is powerful. Same with pot, you use it everyday it starts to suck.

The important thing with substances is to think about risk/reward ratio. I think it's great with caffeine. Safe upper intake level is about 400mg/day which is plenty for anyone.

To me the extremely remote possibility of me having medical issues with caffeine is negligent compared to the intense work you can get done on it which will DEFINITELY help you on the long run.

I buy 200mg caffeine pills and in the past couple years of taking them I've never had to take more than 400mg. And for me, 400mg kicks me in to a 10 hour working frenzy with insane output.

But, still, on a fundamental level I have an issue with crutches in general so I haven't taken it for about a year... I think just based on the fact I prefer to use my internal motivation to get things done instead of relying on a drug to get me going. Just seems like a healthier thing to do personality wise.

It's better than Red Bull. I need something to make me start in the morning, it's hard to stare the computer when you're really tired. Back when I was single without kids and could start my day at noon I never need it but getting up at 7 to help get the kids off to school has really fucked up my preferred schedule of working until 3am and sleeping until noon. I start the day with a double espresso from my Nespresso machine.

I find a good stretch ad drinking a litre of water wakes me up pretty good.

Coffee I'm not fussed, I do like tea though, english style with milk :)

If you are limiting yourself to one and at most two cups a day (black coffee) it is perfectly healthy. More than this begins to become a problem due to too much caffeine. Also a good habit to get into, drink at least a cup of water in the morning before your coffee. This helps prevent and harm to your stomach.

All that being said, unless you are drinking a liter of coffee a day, your probably just fine.

Personally I use coffee to keep from being sleepy, and it helps me poop.

Most findings on coffee are correlations and not causations.

With that out of the way, most everything is positive. Coffee is full of antioxidants and can improve physical and mental performance with the right dose. The problem is when you don't metabolize caffeine effectively. For example, if you get crazy jitters and have trouble sleeping due to a cup of coffee you had 12 hours ago, you don't metabolize caffeine effectively. And the drawbacks from that (poor sleep, etc.) outweigh the positives of what's in the coffee.

If the caffeine doesn't give you trouble, then 1-2 cups of coffee per day is probably healthier than zero cups (or 10 cups.)

I'm with AdamC, I really enjoy tea, although I drink both.

When it comes down to it go ahead and drink coffee, it's not going to kill you, just try not to overdo it with the cream and sugar. I drink my coffee black and my tea black, don't be a puss and enjoy it for what it is, you'll cut down on a lot of excess sugar and fat without having to add a bunch of bullshit.

I also find that sugar makes me crash early and cream just bogs me down, so personally it's better for me to omit them.

The question is: Why do you drink coffee?

For most, it's the 'energy'. The mis and pre conceived notion that coffee is the solution to a personal energy crisis. If this is you, you may want to research mitochondria and how to feed your mitochondria. Do this, be healed - partially. As always, this is only a partial-truth and not the ultimate truth.

For some its the taste, which in a way only comes from an individuals subconscious mind associating the 'positive feeling' with the flavor of coffee. For these people, even bad coffee can be pleasant. Fools :p

For others, its the social norm. Everyone drinks coffee. The subconscious associates coffee with success, in a way.

Spiritual energy, now that is a different topic all together.

Back to the original query: why coffee?

Regarding coffee, its pure common sense; if a little is good More is better.

This thread is now about vintage ads....

I was on a few cups of coffee for many years but didn't like the side effects it gave me.. So I started drinking tea. Green tea and black tea help me have energy for the whole day.

Also, exercising frequently boosts your energy levels sky high from my experience..

First cup of coffee in the morning makes me want to take a shit. Sometimes just the smell, which begins my day.

I drink a lot of tea too. I like english style with a bit of milk and small spoon of sugar, or in the evening some non caffeine tea like lemon zinger. For a while I switched from coffee to yerba mate.

From what I know its no big deal if you take 1 cup of coffee a day but generally coffee is no good.
Anyway I like coffee and true pleasure is when I take some coffee in Italy - I think Italians got the best coffee on the planet
