Ok, I'm ready to take what I've got coming to me for asking this question. So here it is. Why is it that when I try to go to the commission junctions site by simply typing in cj.com or clicking on any link (including the first result for commission junction in google) that directs to cj.com I always get a a "problem loading page" error? I can get in through any extension of that link or if I click through any link that is partnered with cj such as the ebay affiliate program. So what's the deal with just the straight up commission junction home page. As far as I know I've never seen it... Hurt me.

Are you using Firefox? What OS do you have? Is the network your on only used by you (your family, etc.) or is it managed by someone else?

I've experienced a fair share of weird internet problems myself, so we should be able to get you straightened out.

Thanks I really appreciate your help on this. It's strange because I never have a problem with any other website. I should have been a bit more thorough in my first post about the details. I'm using Firefox and running windows xp. I'm using a wireless connection in my house with only one other computer connected. Like I said I haven't experienced any other strange problems like this before, at least not that I'm aware of. Thanks again for the help.

Does it happen with the other computer? If it's not your browser then it might actually be your isp since the cj.com site tries to look for info on you before loading the page (e.g. what country you're in). I had to make a minor tweak because my isp was preventing certain sites from loading altogether, but I only found out about it from a user forum.

Hmm, yep you're right. I'm at a friends place right now and it's loading up no problem. I hadn't even thought of trying to load it on another computer. So any thoughts on what might be causing the problem or how to fix it? I'm in the U.S. I'll be googling and seeing what I can find out. Thanks very much for the help.

Search for your HOSTS files (windows/system/drv/hosts I believe, search google for the location), open it in notepad and make sure some asshat hasn't put an entry for cj.com and is trying to redirect to a page to steal your login info.

If they have, delete it and you'll be good to go.

Hey thanks. I got it working. I'm not exactly sure where the problem is but it was somewhere in the HOSTS file. I saved it, then cleared everything out besides the local host at the top and now cj comes right up. I'll look through it just for curiosity's sake and see if I can figure out what the particular hang up was. Again, thanks a lot.

I've seen some anti-adware/spyware packages really hose over ones Hosts file. Load it full of just tons of URLs that it feels are evil and redirects them to 127.0.0.1.
Specifically Spybot Search & Destroy, I think.

Priority and Strictnein are right.

A lot of spyware/malware software will alter your hosts file."Spybot S&D is bad about this"

Go find your hosts file:
  • Windows Vista (Might need admin rights)
    C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc
  • Windows XP/2003
    C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc
  • Windows NT/2000
    C:\Winnt\System32\Drivers\etc
  • Windows 95/98/Me
    C:\Windows
Right click and open with notepad.

Look for:
127.0.0.1 eg.blockedsitesname.com
delete the entry and save.

If your uncomfortable doing this go get hostexpert, good Free hosts file pro.

You can also try flushing your DNS.

Go to run
type cmd
type flushdns

Cheers.

go to commissionjunction.com not cj.com

or go to the uk version you'll still be able to login your account
