This might need to go in the domaining section, but for some reason its not showing as private eventhough I have a free membership.

Hey guys, just saw this on digg, don't want to link to it for fear of what happened last time I linked to a blog/article i didn't own, :anon.sml:

but did want to get this out there because I remember someone at WF having a problem of searching for domain names one day, only to have EVERY DOMAIN NAME taken the next day. Can only imagine how frustrating that must be.

Those Fuckin Bastards.

How long has it been known? I've only heard about it over the past few days.

I use to check for domains on register sites, and I have purchased over 500 names. I suspected this years ago, but I’m a conspiracy theory kind of guy so I thought it was me just being crazy. However, I stopper searching for names like that. If I’m looking for unique names I build a list over a few weeks then drop the entire list in and buy what I need right away. I’m not surprised if that is happening and I agree it’s messed up.
--crap its hard enough finding domains -

You guys remember when network solutions made every single unregistered domain name point to their parked domain pages? That shit was crazy.. for like 72 hours

Yes I figured this out a couple years ago. When I searched for domains on godaddy, next day it's gone. That's why I jumped to Namecheap.com.

Its been known for years just first time a highly publicised media has spoken about it.

Years back used to use whois to check domains but one minute they would be free and the next day they would be taken ( despite the fact that they were obscure and no body had bothered to register them ever before ).

Now use sites like godaddy and namecheap . they offer cheap domains and best of all any domains I search I know they will not just run off and register it.

Im suprised somebody isnt taking legal action against NS

Bonus.

This is the lowest move I've heard of in a long time.

I read this story on TechCrunch last night ans was in disbelief. I can't believe this shit. I hope someone sues the shit out of them or they get DoS'd the fuck out of... because what they are doing is bullshit.

Thank god for other sites like GoDaddy and DomainSite... companys that are still somewhat ethical.

i personally use domainsbot when i'm looking for a domain cause i like the live search feature, then after collect a bunch of domains in a txt file i go to godaddy and buy them bulk.

i actually never tried namecheap. is it good?

Yea, I have always been careful when I search for names; this tactic has been out there for a while. I remember a lot of people complaining about some of those "name snapper" (grab the domain the second it is dropped) services doing this.

If you really want to mess with them, rig up a bot to start a bunch of random queries like ej1knfgipqe.com or ibfiq34ebq.net and you'll break them of that habit pretty quick. At least for a little while.
