Content Network: Not Getting Impressions

My CTR was pretty shitty (0.03) so it's time for me to start weeding out sites and building my negative keyword list.

Using negative keywords on the Content Network is usually not a good idea. Better to run a placement performance report after you've acquired some data and start adding sites to the category/site exclusion list that have unacceptable cost per conversion values if you're using conversion tracking or exclude sites with a crappy CTR.

Question on Image Ads:

1) Does the "needs to stop being animated after 30 seconds" apply to animated GIFs, or only flash? Can you even stop an animated GIF?

2) Can I use "Click Here" in an animated GIF?

3) How long does it take to get approved?
- Derek

1) It applies to anything animated, including GIFs.

2) Yes

3) For some, 24 hours. For others, several weeks:

I'd say that's some very bad advice..

You can do this, sure. But it will take you longer to regain good CTR (and thus also, content QS and lower CPC) if you do a shotgun tactic from the start. Better to use negative keywords from the beginning and limit the amount of crap sites from day one. Then when data starts to gather, weed it out even further.

ImagesAndWords & Others:

How do you compile your negative keyword list? As far as I can tell, there isn't a way to find out what specific keyword triggered your ad. Do you just try and guess from your keyword research?
